Hello,

I've had Riffworks standard for about 2-3 months now, and it has always worked perfectly. But recently, when I open the program, it loads fine for a few seconds, then where it says "Loading drummer, Loading metrenome"....etc. it stops on "loading metrenome High Cowbell" and stays there. Then I have to open Windows Task Manager and select "end task", as I cannot close the program. I have re-downloaded Riffworks, tried restarting the computer, tried opening it on different users on the computer, and NOTHING seems to work.

ANY help at all would be appreciated! Thanks!

Recording Observation for the newbs or the hard-headed like me

As a recording hobbyist & guitarist, I'm always interested in learning better playing and recording techniques. One thing that I tend to forget and also hear many here @ RW doing the same...is trying to properly create an aural space for each of the instruments when recording tracks. I frequently focus too much guitar tone in the bottom end and not letting the bass carry the bottom (or invert that as the case may be). Results, muddy mess. Trying to get a single guitar tone that carries the full spectrum leaves little room for adding other instruments to compliment the guitar vs. compete against it. An example to observe is Rhoads tone on many iconic Ozzy tracks which are not overly mid-scooped as so many constructed tones intended to replicate it end up sounding. He actually had a ton of mids in his tone which really had bite and they occupy a perfect portion of spectrum in those recordings. Here is the isolated recording of the guitars by RR on Flying High Again (if not actually him, an excellent replication of the tone.) I'm amazed at how bright and vibrant they sound in isolation. Being able to anticipate and hear the final combined mix when choosing tone is paramount.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE6GWZ53 … re=related

Here is another site with isolated, vocals, guitar, bass and more. The EVH isolated guitar tracks here are priceless. You can really hear the genius of Eddie and his use of effects/tones. Brilliant.

http://www.studiomultitracks.com/

Well I'm off to try and actually practice some today if possible. I keep saying I'm going to just practice my vibrato until it is respectable...but then I end up riffing around on something and those riffs need some bass, and that backing track then needs some leads...well...that's why my vibrato still sucks.

Cheers,

JM
