Well, I just put down $190 for a Rifftracker system. It's not as easy as 1,2,3,4 as listed on the box, but maybe it's just me.

I'm able to hear guitar via gearbox, it creating songs using those layers. I seen the record button on gearbox, but I now see the recording is done through the rifftracker. I'm lost actually when it come to "easy as drag and drop" and those confusing layers and how to place things in a riff block and arrange stuff so it sounds good and not just seperate riffs. lol.

I'll keep sifting through some post here and see if I can pick up anything more in the directions of how to use this system.

I guess anything can be overwhelming if not understanding how to use it.

Please go easy on me ... new here :o)

Hi and welcome! Check this out http://www.sonomawireworks.com/guide/index.php/RiffWorks_Guide and go to recording.

Basically you record the song in blocks of "riffs". These "riffs" contain multiple "layers" of various instruments or vocals and backing tracks. You drop and drag the "riffs" in the time line at the top of the recording window to arrange the song.

It really is that easy. Once you have the song arranged as you like (mixing the layers within each riff to you taste) You can export that in either wav or ogg format.

I would suggest you go through that online guide and come back if anything is still not clear. There is a great bunch of users here that can and will help.

Well, I'm an absolute new'b too an made my first recording........very pleased.

Anyway what I did was pick a drum pattern then set the riff length to two bars.

This is what made the thing go into auto mode, it kept looping two bars and I just varied what I palyed and ended up with a bunch of takes.

What happensth en is you push play to practice your riff over the drum beat and when your ready, hit record and you record a riff two bars long but the thing just keeps adding layers automatically for the next two bars and so I fooled with adding a bass line and took only the bottom octave of the envelope follower, pretty cool, then adding chords.

You kind of let the thing run and it adds a new layer and after you get say five or six you delete the takes you like by mute and solo. Very cool. Pretty darn impressed with my self for coming up with a cool riff just by trial and error.

Now I'm sure, this doesn't make any sense, but I'm pretty darn happy with what came out. I not a hot guitar player, and only know the pentatonic scale, and had to trial and error a bass line but I came up with music, albeit two bars long but music out of me.

Couldn't be happier..........ta da

I post what I came up with, not braggging, but the first recording program i could figure out. Woopie!

Thanks for the link! I read that, but unfortunatly it isn't sinking in for me yet though.

The riff block, thats just it. you put each riff block in order up top, and it sounds aweful, like many different seperate pieces.

Are there any guidelines on how to use this program on video clips?

The timing takes a while to get used to. Use the metronome for a lead in to help you start on time. You really need to play through the riff from start to finsih in order for it to flow good into the next one.

It is best to record 5 or 6 takes of a single part, and then go back and pick the best one.

If you use big delays and reverbs it may sound cut off. Try adding the delays and reverbs after with the Sonoma effects.

What Ive been doing is double tracking using the song layers in a single take. This makes sure my delays and reverbs dont sound abrupt and also that I can actually play the song from start to finsih.
