When I was looking at the new stuff that Riffworks can do, two items grabbed my attention. First, it says that you can do a "tape riff", which is basically a riff that will go throughout the song, not looped (like you would use for vocals or an extended solo) and automated fade, which I would assume you would use in mixdown, to fade the song out. I could not find either of these two items, either in the guide or in the software, . once I upgraded. Where are they? Thanks!

The 'tape riff' you'll find as the Song Layers function. You're absolutely right in saying it's a riff (or riffs) that is/are able to bridge the joins between riffs and they can run through an entire song or part of it.
To access this/these riff(s), click on the 'Song Layers' box to the left of the riffs table. You have to switch between riffs and the 'song layer' by clicking either the riff you want to see or on the 'song layers' box.
It took me two or three goes to figure it out and why certain sounds were still audible during playback when all of the layers in a riff were muted. It was because there were layers unmuted in the 'song layers' view. (Does this make sense?!) The trick is knowing whether you're looking at layers in a riff or layers in a song layer. To my mind, it could be clearer (probably like my explanation!!)

Thanks, Scott and Bluesydude! I havent jumped in with the songlayer thing yet (still working on my first recording). When you do, do you have to start at the beginning of the song, or can you jump in or punch in, in specific areas. I want to use this mainly for extended solos and vocals that carry through parts of the song, but not the whole song.

Yes you can punch in at any point by using the song time line. I've found that doing this automatically puts you in 'riff view' mode and not 'song layer' mode. You need to click the 'song layer' box again to bring up the layers in there.
Cheers!
