No need to retract that statement! You can't see how the rest of the walls are lined. I think some of my closest friends say the same thing, so you're spot-on. :P

I use KRK RP5's which I like a lot. I've also heard rave reviews about Tascam VL-X5. Both run about $300 for the pair.

Randy,

First, it looks like well-equipped and functional work station. I’d like to own some of that equipment.

Second, I envy you for that chair! Mine has arms which is a real pain-in-the-neck when playing guitar and bass.

Perhaps, other forum users will share photos of their working/recording spaces.

Thanks!

Humble, but how much do you really need these days for personal recording?

I move the computer monitor (left) to be in between the monitors when mixing or mastering, and have a wireless mouse and keyboard for the same reason.

Gatorjj: A prefect example of that classic saying about good architecture - “form follows function.”

How do you rate your POD? Is that the 2.0 or the xt? I’ve been that thinking about the POD xt live and an Atomic amp but haven’t made up my mind yet. I like the idea that Atomic amp has a docking compartment for your model of the POD.

By the way, when was that picture taken? I ask only because your windows are raised and its December. I used to live in Black Mountain near Ashville and miss that mild weather (it’s minus something in Fargo).

EPauley, it looks like I took that in October. As you fondly recall that's a great time of year to have the windows open! As a side note, I mix & master with the windows open, the theory being my room is not treated and hopefully some of those nasty reflections go "right out the window" Tomorrow will be 60deg but I have nothing to mix so I guess I'll hang around outside

The POD is an XT. I like it, though honestly haven't compared it to anything. I bought it last year off Ebay instead of an amp as I got back into things a bit. That's how I discovered RiffWorks, it was an option to purchase when I registered the POD. I've found a couple patches that seem to work well with my guitar and I don't stray a whole lot from them. I think these days the sound engine is the same as the GuitarPort, so I don't know if there's a whole lot to be gained from a POD if you're just recording.

gatorjj: funny. Gee, some of that southern air must be drifting northward. It’s 35 degrees which is a heat wave for North Dakota.

Yes, I suspect you’re right about the sound engine being the same as a GuitarPort which is what I own.

I am just feeling the urge to escape from the restraints of the computer. My practice amp – a Peavey Transtube 212 EFX is okay but I’d like to reproduce the sounds I get while recording with GearBox.

The PODxt would help that, the nice thing is you still can have it hooked to the computer to mess with patches on the computer but not be tethered to it. The XTLive might be a good choice as well, depending on your needs. The amp you play it through will have some impact on the sound, so you may have to tweak things to suit. Heck it's almost Christmas, and what's Christmas without a new toy?
