I've been thinking of spending some dough I don't really have, and aren't quite sure how these programs would work with RWS... I guess I could read up on it, 'cept I'm unfathomably lazy... guess I'll stop bein' lazy once I stop all the procrastinating...

Anyway, is there any difference between ProTools, CuBase, etc., and Reason??

If anybody could give me the condensed version, that would be very cool...

thanks...

Reason is not a DAW where you record tracks into it like some of the others. It is a stand alone music workstation and will hook up to DAW's that support ReWire such as RiffWorks. It does have a sequencer (window) that you can record MIDI into and assign to the various instruments that Reason has in it. At this time Reason doesn't support audio track recording. You can import audio however.

Reason (imo) is a hell of a monster of a program and I and some others here are pretty huge fans of it. Go to http://www.propellerheads.se/ to read up on what Reason can do and all of its instruments.

Great program that I highly recommend...but you need to have a midi controller.

There is a free program you can download to use your PC keyboard as a midi controller. It works great, it is call Bome's Mouse Keyboard and you can read more here: http://www.bome.com/midi/keyboard/

Here's a lil self promotion here but what the hey......

"Still Standing Here" at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=88227969
this one doesn't use any guitars (so RW was not used) and is just Reason with their Reasons Pianos pack. Some synth effects, bass, and REX file drums.

"Blow My Mind" is a song by a friend of mine and can be heard at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=130913628
This one uses Reason with RiffWorks. It was then dragged into Live 6 for the vocals.
