Riffworks is a pleasure to use...when it doesn't lock up on me at startup, which happens about every third try (while the program is trying to load the metronome cowbell). Is this a common problem? I'd rather not pay for the program if so.

Try changing the metronome from the cowbell to something else and see if it still happens.
Cheers!

Thanks for the replies. I'm not able to open the program anymore...probably some conflict with something else I've recently installed, but at any rate I can't change any of the defaults since Riffworks crashes before opening. I'll keep at it. Happy holidays

I had the same problem.....turned out to be the driver for Reaper (ReaRoute)that locked me up...........
try this.....................................................

If you are comfortable with regedit, please go ahead and do the following.
Under the windows start button click run.

1. Type in regedit.
2. Look in HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareSonoma Wire WorksRiffWorks Standard
3. Go to device name, double click, type in Asio GuitarPort or Asio TonePort, assuming your using one of those or leave blank.
4. fire up RiffWorks.............. it should now load up.
Cheers ......keep us posted

Many thanks for the detailed response, MickeyMix. I didn't mention I'm using a Novation XioSynth, which the program probably isn't designed to work with (though it has, most of the time, until lately). I tried deleting and then restoring the device name in RegEdit--no luck so far, but will keep fiddling. Maybe I'll just have to buy a guitar interface. Got a TonePort back home, actually, but left it in a closet when I went overseas a couple of years ago...would've brought it with me if I'd known I'd be gone this long! Anyway, cheers & happy holidays.

I get the hang at cowbell all the time. Always have. Normally I have Toneport set as soundcard and it is not a problem, but I switch to soundcard in control panel for gaming and plug my headphones in there. When I start Riffworks in this condition I usually get the hang at cowbell. After an end task in task manager I always unplug the usb cable and replug it to reload my line 6 drivers. Then it works again.

Thanks, GunSlinger. Good to know I'm not the only one having this problem. I'll try your workaround and report back. Cheers

I just purchased an m-audio firewire410 and had the same problem as described above. I used regedit as suggested and it appears to have fixed the problem of the program sticking on cowbell.

Hi,

It's a novation driver issue. I've had EXACTLY the same problem with my Novation X-station.
My solution was as follows:
There are two places which have asio drivers for Novation (same for your novation device). On the CD that came with it and on the Novation Site. I believe the drivers on the Novation site are the correct ones.

so de-install your novation drivers and install the new novation drivers. Now it should work.

good luck!
