Kenster,

To try and answer your questions ...

You can't move layers up or down in a riff. I think the only work around would be to duplicate the riffs you want. Every duplicated riff goes to the bottom of the layers, so theoretically you could rearrange them by duplication then delete the originals. Bit of a clumsy way of doing it. Your suggestion to be able to do this is a good one though.

You can't move layers between riffs although I know this is something on the Sonoma 'wish list'. To get a layer in another riff, most of us duplicate the riff , delete unwanted layers then add other layers around it.

You can indeed import/export riffs (but not individual layers) by using the 'export' and 'import' buttons in the 'Riff' section.

I don't know if RWS saves layers to a specific location temporarily until a song is saved properly. Dan, Dave, Dug or Randy would be able to answer that better than I can. Consequently, I can't give you a decent response for your final question - sorry!
The default location to save finished .rws files is in your ...My DocumentsSonoma Wire WorksRiffWorksSongs. You can choose to save your .rws files anywhere by navigating to it in the 'Save As...' window. I don't know if there's a way to change the default location after installation is complete ... again Dan, Dave, Dug or Randy would be best placed to answer that.

Hope this helps.
Cheers!
Scott

My layers change position from time to time by themselves, so I don't know if I'd mess with the duplicate/delete dance!

it would be verry helpful if you could move layers betwen riffs
EXAPLE
you put together a killer song its all spred out and things are deleted to make room in the riff then the bass player stops in now he would have to record into each riff
insted of once then copy to the other riffs
WHY
i can only get things wright once
if there thew same lenth and tempo it should be doable to move layers betwen riffs
I need all the help i can get!!!!

I agree completely.........it is something I have hoped for but alas it has never materialized. Nothing worse than trying to mix and having the layers jumbled from riff to riff.

I try to record in sequence for that very reason.

This is something a lot of users have mentioned but the moving of layers to riffs of different tempos and lengths seems to be the complicating factor.
Maybe there's a way for RWS to only allow copying if the riffs match in every aspect or, as someone else suggested, the new riff becomes the dominant one and it cuts/chops the imported layer to fit.
Whatever, the Sonoma people are great at listening to their customers and I'm sure, if it's feasible, they'll try to accommodate it in a future release.
Cheers!

Kenster, if you really need to move the bass from one riff to the rest in a song, this is something I can do. Look for an email from me.
