Welcome to the RiffWorks forum Skulldozer!

I don't know what your setup is but I think most folks here are using some form of interface/ASIO device to plug their instrument/mic in to then record to RiffWorks. (I presume you're using RiffWorks, right?)

Sonoma has a strong partnership with 'Line 6' and originally "RiffTracker" was distributed as a bundle (RiffWorks software and 'Line 6's "GuitarPort" hardware). "GuitarPort" is a piece of hardware which you plug your guitar/mic/etc. in to. It allows you to process the signal via a wide range of amp models then record it in RiffWorks.

"GuitarPort" has now been joined by another piece of hardware called "TonePort" which basically does the same thing.

Check out the Line 6 website (www.line6.com) for details.

If you can let us know more about what you've got, we'll all try to help you out. The forum is used by a great bunch of people and usually someone will give you the answer you're looking for.

Hey skulldozer801,

Here's a link to the system requirements:
http://www.sonomawireworks.com/riffworksrequirements.php

That has a link to the ASIO and Core Audio input devices that we recommend.

Welcome,
Michelle

It's not recommended to use ASIO4All but it may work to run your guitar through a guitar pedal and into a line level input on your pc. A guitar pedal increases the level up to a line level and matches impedence to a line input. You can then use the ASIO4ALL driver and the amplitube plug in. This is assuming you have a line in, not mic in, on your pc.

Ideally for the best sound, you want an amp modeling interface or direct box with an asio driver.

I do have riffworks I have never used software like this before, I did look at musicians friend.com and found a line 6 guitar port but it was like 130 bucks! is that the only kind I should use or are their cheaper ones with vocal and guitar inputs?

Hey SkullDozer,
I know it seems like a lot of money but when you consider what you're getting it's really very affordable. If you're on a tight budget, and most of us are, you might want to consider a Behringer V-amp. It doesnt have mic inputs but it's a decent interface/amp modeler. If you're not familiar with pc recording, and it sounds like you're not then I suggest visiting this site http://www.tweakheadz.com/
I know it may seem overwhelming but there is a certain learning curve to anything. Give it some time, do some homework and ask questions. There's plenty of info on the web about this stuff. Good luck and welcome!
I act like I want to, not like I should.

Skulldozer,

GuitarPort has a single input and you can buy them from most good music shops. Second hand ones from the likes of eBay carry a risk of licence issues in that the original owner must transfer the Line 6 licence over to you.
TonePort is the most recent offering from Line 6 and comes in two models - one with one input (UX1), the other with two (UX2).
There are other devices out there like M-Audio's 'Fast Track USB' . IK Multimedia's Stealth Plug might be another, but Sonoma have yet to say whether this is supported or not.
Basically, you don't need GuitarPort, but it's tried, tested and well supported.
