Hi..

I have Rifftracker v2 and im trying to use reason 3 to add synth and bass lines to my songs but im having a slight problem (it's probably just me! lol)

Reason seems to work correctly with rewire.. starts and stops when i start/stop rifftracker, but when i record something in reason i.e. a bassline, it loops with the current rifftracker riff (which i expected) but when the song changes to another riff reason keeps playing the old recorded riff over the new one.. how do you record a track for a whole song?

When you have your song the way you want in the song bar,,then mix to riff with the mix button and you can record a new riff over the entire tune..

ah i see.. i take it there's no way to get reason to change for each riff though is there?.. mixing down kind of limits what you can afterwards in rifftracker as far as adding new tracks etc..

Yeah you can in fact set it so it changes properly........you need to look at the L & R indicators in reason than define the start and end point of each section that play with the riff.

You will just need to move them to set up the proper sections recorded in Reason to play synched with the riff you want in RW.

Hope that helps.......or just makes some sense.......

Each Riff remembers where you placed the Left loop indicator inside of Reason. Because RiffWorks is loop based, you'll always be using Reason with Loop mode on. You don't need to turn it on because it's already on, always.

Each Riff will tell Reason where to put the Left loop indicator, and how long the loop is.

So if you have a six bar riff, the loop length in Reason will be six bars, and now you just need to place the left loop indicator at the beginning of whatever you want to play during that riff.

In Reason, you'll have a few different sections that could be completely spread out, but RiffWorks will remember what to loop in Reason for each Riff.

If you don't want anything to loop, place the left loop indicator in a blank part of the sequencer.

i still have this problem. Its really technical stuff and i'm only 18. Its really confusing to have Reason change everytime a new riff is playing.

Hey DeathMonster,

You can have the same loop points for many different riffs. They only change if you move the loop points in the Reason sequencer.

Let's say you create a riff, and you play some guitar, then make something in Reason and it's looping for 8 bars.

When you create a new Riff, that new Riff will have the same attributes as the Riff you had active when you created it - tempo, bar length, meter, drummer settings, and the loop points in Reason.

So if you set up some loop points in the beginning for a Reason beat you like, then that will continue to be the loop that Reason plays when you create new riffs, unless you change it.

Think of it like an extension of the backups section. You have a Riff, and that riff has all these backup settings associated with it. Well, it also has the Reason settings associated with it. So you're just making a super backup for each Riff when you use Reason.
