Had exactly the same problem Bushrod

The problem is I've had riff works a few months and it work fine it was when i downloaded the update to line monkey up date - it gives you the audio box in the control panel - which is good but i'm not techincalyl minded to figure why it kept making the noises - it may have something to do with bandwidth on your computer - but in short uninstall line 6 1.16 and install 1.15 this takes the the audio control function out - and it still works fine and sounds great - live with out the update

Hope this works for you brendan myspace.com/blacktopcoalition

Thanks Brendan,

OK... I'm an idiot (I guess)... How do I get v1.15 of the Monkey vs. v1.16???...

I just got all this stuff last week so 1.16 was what loaded automatically when everything got set up... I can't roll it back to 1.15...

Any assistance would be appreciated... for a poor ignorant RiffWorks wanna-user...

BTW... Brendan... I dug your MySpace page (myspace.com/blacktopcoalition)... when you guys come to Toronto look me up... I'll buy the lager...

Hi blacktopcoalition,

Is all you did to fix the problem to install the old Monkey 1.15?
Did you change any drivers?
Can you tell us using the Monkey all the specific versions of things you are running?

thanks,

Howdy,

I think I've tried everything that everyone's been kind enough to suggest... everything... with absolutely no success... every time I hit "record" all hell breaks loose and there's pops and crackles and all sorts of godawful crap that makes the whole deal a pretty useless endeavour...

I'm pretty frustrated... Riffworks looks like a cool program... I wanna use it... I've got a pretty decent computer... and it doesn't work... that's a bummer... any other suggestions???...

Grazie,
CJ

dug -
Can he put a PCI USB card in his laptop?
I only know that is what solved this problem with my desk top.

A new PCI Card is the recommended fix over at L6. This solution works for the majority but did not for me. Despite installing a new card on my desk top six months ago, I still have the snap crackle and pop.

I also get it when using Gearbox without RWS. Isn't this problem tied to L6 hardware instead of software?

Well, it all stemmed from a Intel Chipset problem. Intel sent out an official worldwide memo about many USB problems linked to certain chipsets with various audio soft/hardware. About 2 years ago an x-Line6 support person sent me the Intel memo link listing about the specific chipsets having the problems and fixed by the addition of the PCI card.

I'm running this on a laptop - are we thinking maybe a PCMCIA USB 2.0 card is the fix in that case?

Anyone heard of that fix for this problem in the laptop world?

Thanks

hushrod,

I think a PCMCIA USB 2.0 card is the solution associated with laptops at L6. Have you checked over at L6? There's got to be a lot of laptop users with the same issue.

Try here for starters: http://line6.com/support/entry!default.jspa?categoryID=10&externalID=4282&fromSearchPage=true

Good Luck! :)

Good Luck brushrod.
I backed out of the conversation when laptops and the PCMCIA USB 2.0 card became the issue since I only have knowledge of desk tops. I goggled the PCI for laptops and I came across the PCMCIA card but gave up reading the tech talk.

Hopefully it's onward and upward from here on out sans the Rice Krispies Syndrome (snap, crackle & pop).

So after purchasing (and returning) a PCMCIA USB card which doesn't fit my laptop slot I bought a ExpressCard USB card and gave it a shot...

with absolutely no success... there was as much noise as ever... frustrating...

Any more suggestions anyone???...

brushrod -
anyone who can do things like this http://digg.com/videos/music/Using_audio_waves_to_arrange_physical_objects_VIDEO
must have the answers you need.
Ask dan.
this isn't to make light of your problem... can there be a bigger computer g*** here on the SSW forum?

FWIW - I experienced a lot of static last night for the first time. Desktop PC with plenty of power. It seems that my signal being recorded was way too hot. I pulled back on that and all was good after that. Good luck man, I know it can really be frustrating.

For the first time ever, I've had the old 'snap, crackle and pop' as well. I've narrowed it down to (on my machine at least) to the effects factory presets. I can basically turn the crackle on and off by turning on some of the effects presets (especially the compression) on layers. It sounds like I'm playing the song on an old piece of vinyl!
I only got the crackle on the 'song line' playback. The riff playback was OK.

I haven't tried mixing the song to see if the crackle makes it through that process but I'll try and see what happens.
Cheers!
