Amplitude 2 - I can't get there from here

I am probably missing something obvious but am baffled nonetheless.

Anyway, I downloaded the RiffWorks Standard 2.1 update. Also, the free drummer and Amplitude 2 Live from my account. The new drummer is there - sounds and works great. However, now I can’t access Amplitude 2 Live or LE.

When I switch off “Hardware” and choose effects in RiffWorks Standard I can see the “amp” button will not let me select it.

Also, I can choose “Select Plugin Path” and see the Amplitude 2 Live folder.

Could this be related to Windows Vista (Home Premium) not being compatible with this function?

An aside: Man, I loathe Windows Vista! It looks pretty but I don’t see any other advantages – but lots of negatives! Can’t play ea games, can’t use SoundBlaster software, it freezes and stalls all of the time, etc! I was on the phone with a Microsoft tech for 4 hours last night (no exaggeration)! My computer surpasses all the required specs so it’s Vista. Sorry, but I had to rant about Vista which I have owned for a week today. :(

The VST plugin isn't usually installed in the Amplitude 2 Live folder. Try looking for C:Program FilesVstplugins
That's the standard location.
The actual plugin is named AmpliTube2Live.dll

I'm sorry our experience with Vista is limited at the moment to a few test cases. It is difficult to say the least to manage an update without upgrading OSs in the middle of it. Now that 2.1 is pretty much out the door, setting up our testing and development machines with Windows Vista, and Mac OS X Leopard is at the top of the list.

Moving to the new versions of operating system can have as many problems for developers as for users, and there are many components from different companies involved. There are audio drivers and the ASIO drivers that we talk to them through. There are libraries provided by companies like Steinberg, Propellerhead, and Line 6. There are plugins like AmpliTube.

The OS releases are a moving target, so often we adopt a wait and see policy to supporting them. Sometimes they show up at just the wrong time. RiffWorks v2.0 was delayed by the release of the Mac Intel machines. The timing was just so that doing our first Mac release without Mactel support would have been awkward.

So far, our software seems to work on Vista 32-bit systems we've tested on. The biggest stumbling block will be for the audio/ASIO drivers on 64-bit systems. Line 6 calls the GearBox 3.1 support of Vista beta.

We'll try to help you get things working as best we can. And I'll try to post my experiences with getting Vista working on our own machines as we run into any problems.

I do agree with you on your current take of Vista though. It seems to be a lot about the new looks and not so much about actually new functionality. I'm sure we'll find all sorts of flaws, and there will be features we wouldn't give up. XP was a little weird at first too, but it was a definite improvement from 98/Me. You'll definitely hear more from me on it.

Thanks Dug! I followed you directions and everything is working fine. I did get a runtime error once but recovered after a restart.

Also, I appreciate your input regarding Vista. I should have waited a bit longer before upgrading from xp but I can’t resist new toys that are technology based. Consequently, I am really angry with myself for “jumping the gun.” What concerns me most about Vista, after last night, is that the Microsoft tech had all of the same issues on his computer!

However, I must admit that I have a lot of respect for the people at Microsoft. Fargo has their business software development facility and so some of my best friends are team leaders over there. They are very impressive thinkers and loyal to Microsoft because they believe in their products.

Gee, Amplitude 2 Live looks and sounds great. I haven’t even noticed any latency while recording.

How does one register Amplitude 2 Live since it is a download and embedded in RiffWorks? When you use it there is a meassge that you only have 10 days to register (panic in streets!). Is there a serial number?

Somewhere in the three or more (if you bought a lot of drummers) pages of downloads in your Sonoma account is a link to download your Amp 2 Live serial number.

Thanks TerryR! I had forgotten the process since LE.

Hi dug -

I can't get there from here either.
I dl'ed the Ampltube from my downloads and reinstalled it and it isn't labeled Amplitube 2 LE.

so...

1) I have the old serial number in my downloads not the one that starts with ATL20

2) When I open and tried to register I got a message saying it was already registered
with this serial #: ATB10-76I9CRKC-29067. I spotted your reply to Mozzarello in
the customer service threads talking about the new serial #. I downloaded twice on
2/18/07 Sunday 8:30pm PST. As you stated
We've fixed a bug in the
AmpliTube 2 Live serial number download script.

I'm still getting the old ATB #.

GuitarSlinger wrote:This is grrreat because Amp 2 Live is about 100 times better than Amp Live. Alot of the goodies are there from the full version...

this leads me to believe I do not have the correct Amplitube version in my downloads because what I see looks exactly the same as what I had before when I installed during beta testing.

Can you check into it and get back to me after you get back this coming week please?

Thanks,
Mark

Jisg I had a hard time finding it too, I could of sworn it wasn't there. When you go to my downloads and you get to the page that says Amplitube LE keep going, that is the old one. The new one says Amplitube Live and it is right after the demo drummers, unless there's an error.

Ah Ha!

Never mind dug.

Thanks Slinger!
That was a huge help. Obviously I did not think to keep looking for the new version and now I see that I did read mickeymix alluded to finding it on another page in another post. You are just as big of help here as on the Line6 forum, such as it is now, (you would know me over there by my new username - Hey_Joe)

Question:
I promised myself I was going to practice for 2 hours before messing with toys this a.m. after a weekend of goofing off so haven't tried it yet.

I remember initially your comments, reflected my sentiments, that you preferred your Lin6 gear over LE. Still feel that way with 2 Live?
Also epauley posted that there wasn't the same latency issue as before. Have you found that to be the case? Or have you had to break into the control panel and make adjustments to compensate?

Thanks again,
Mark

Jisg: Good to hear from you again. I was wondering what username you were using at L6 since you announced you were dropping the old one.

Concerning the latency issue, of course its system speed and memory related. Among, the few positive functions I’ve discovered about Windows Vista is how you can test and rate a computer’s performance (if this was possible on xp, I never noticed it). My computer rates above 4 in every aspect tested, which is pretty good.

Compared with LE, Amplitude 2 looks a lot better and you can tweak it to get almost any sound.

ShedRex usually complains about Amplitude and latency but his review has been positive so far. That stated, GearBox is still superior but I am more likely to use both applications now.

Question:
I promised myself I was going to practice for 2 hours before messing with toys this a.m. after a weekend of goofing off so haven't tried it yet.

I admire your commitment to the “discipline.”
