If I have to buy a seperate drum machine for Rifftracker2, which is more user friendly:
Drums On Demand or Drumcore or Discrete Drums or some other product?
Does anyone else think these "drummers" are not flexible enough?

Please tell me how I can record a vocal track to Rifftracker2 using the PODxt Live.

Of course we always desire more flexibility but the downloadable drummers are pretty good and there's more choice than ever. Selections depend on which style you play - lots for rock and few for jazz.

Also, unlike a drum machine, I believe all of downloadable drummers here are actual drummers playing real drums – which add to the believability of a recording.

I am not sure about recording vocals with the PODxtL (I have a PODxt and GuitarPort). I do know the GuitarPort L6 song demo features vocals. On the L6 demo a inexpensive mic with a ¼” jack is connected through the GuitarPort’s guitar jack input and it sounds great. I can’t see why you couldn’t do the same with the PODxtL.

By-the-way, there is no vocal pack available for the GuitarPort so the vocals might be on a basic guitar tone with effects added. According to L6, everything was recorded using only the GuitarPort.

Hopes this helps.

Hi jpaulskier,

Adding a vocal track should be straightforward with a PODxtL if you have a dynamic mic and a mic cable that goes XLR on one end and 1/4" tip and sleeve on the other end. I'd record it with no effects or presets on the input, and add whatever you might want inside RiffWorks after it's recorded.

I've also used a condenser mic through a mixer and through the POD and that worked great as well. I don't know if the aux inputs on the xtL allow for recording in or not but that might be another avenue depending what else you have to work with.

On the drummers, for me I think of it as bringing a friend in to play drums, and let him play what he wants, and they work well for me when I'm writing songs. I have EZ Drummer that I use in other programs but am a big fan of the Instant Drummers for sitting down and cranking out a tune without hours of drum programming.

Good luck! Let us know if you have any more questions.

Yeah but you still need to use something to provide the phantom power to your mic. The Pod XT live doesn't have phantom power.
