HI, im a newb w/ riffworks and want to know how to change the length of a riff before it starts playing what you just recorded back! I was to play a riff for as long as i want with out it repeating what i just played. Anyone know how to do this. That way i can create songs with riffs that are different lengths.

thank for help

Once you record in a Riff the length and time signature are fixed. This is also true for Riffs that have not been recorded into yet if that Riff has been dragged to the song bar area.

Hi Erik,
Welcome to the RiffWorks forum. You're in for a few sleepless nights now that you've started using RiffWorks!! :)

Once you have recorded a layer in to a riff, that riff block becomes 'locked'. The tempo, bar length and time signature all show a small padlock symbol and you can't alter them unless you delete all the layers and set the bar length before recording.
You can record a song with lots of riffs of different lengths - you just have to set their bar lengths first. To change the bar length, use the small 'up'/'down' arrows at the end of the 'Length (Bars)' box.
Cheers!
Scott

Welcome Erik,

Scott and Camaro are correct about the Riff length being locked after recording. You've got to set it before recording.

You can actually click anywhere in the length box and drag up and down to change the tempo, or double click and you can type in a number.

If you just want to play for a long time, like the whole song at once. Try using the Song Layers. It never loops, but it also doesn't have drums. If you want, you can make a really long Riff, and put it in the song timeline, so you've got drums or a metronome to play over while you record using SongLayers. Then later, you can go back and remove that one long riff, and build up a drum part that changes by creating different riffs and adding them to the song to go with what you played.

cheers,
