Any possibility of including a Riff Undelete button, I've deleted a few riffs whilst playing through a song line to speed up the process, usually the extra ones I've gained when the recording time goes past one whole riff layer. Maybe I should be more patient, maybe the facilty is already there and I've missed it. I do know it's a big pain in the butt when I delete something I'm mixing when I click on the wrong layer or click the wrong button. Any chances ?

Maybe it's just because I'm an old fart !!!!!

I'm still hooked

Best regards,

Bill

Bill one of the things I do to save myself from such perils is to save songs with different version numbers as I go. Once in a while I change my mind, and I can go back to an earlier version or go get that riff I may have "accidentally" delete and import it to the current version. Takes up some space but frees my mind! :D

I do the different version number saves too. An "Are You Sure" button or undo would be nice though. I've deleted a few keepers myself, just by a slip of the mouse and let out a big "Son of a Diddley!!!"

Cheers,
Jamie

I agree that an 'undo' or 'undelete' function would be a great benefit. It's a standard feature in many, many pieces of software. RWS allows us to do so much yet this is the one thing it can't do.
Considering the nature of music playing/recording where someone can hit the perfect take after many re-takes, it seems important to me that it should be possible to retreive an accidental deletion. More so when the 'Unsolo All' button is literally millimetres away 'Delete All'!
Cheers!
Scott

I do the same as the "Gator" and save version 1-2-3 just in case...........
YUP I learned the hard way!
Also save after every riff recorded just like tuning my beloved Tele/Les/Wolfy before every take! It takes a lil getting used to but once your in THAT habit ....no PROBLEM!!!

I've accidentally deleted a riff by clicking my mouse button when reaching for a guitar pick. :o Is there a way to save versions in RiffLink?

I don't believe save works yet, but keep the pick in your hand and you'll be fine! I've done that reaching for a beer, which is why I requested the "beer pour via junt" feature :D

I do the save thing all the time so if I make that stupid error then I just reopen the tune. On some I also will do the 2-3 back-ups or copies.

Actually....one of the biggest requests I would like to see is a save function that is "self contained". Where the song file can also gather up the REX files.
When I transferred from one computer to the other computer the partition letters for RW was on a different drive letter. Opening the old songs on the new drive asked if I wanted to find C:/blah blah folder/blah blah folder/REX file. The trouble is that when you say yes that's the end of it, because there is no such kind of file as a C:/blah blah folder/blah blah folder/REX file. It is looking for files with that whole name and thus will not look nor open any of the REX files because it's looking for files that begin with C:
So I had to go back to the old computer and open the songs and manually go thru it and look up all the names for the REX files and then find them on the new drive and rebuild them.

BTW.....after RiffLink comes outta beta how about RiffSaloon :)

Blimey, now I've read all this lot I think I need the Rifflink Saloon already !!!!!

How about automatic backups that we could set a timer for or maybe layering along the lines of a graphics program instead ?

Hi Bill

Well...I learned a major lesson today.
From now on when I start a song I am going to immediately do copies right off the bat and constantly rotate them.
I had one song I was really happy with where it was going and was going to make a copy right after doing a initial save of what I just recorded.
I had quite a bit involved in this too, but upon save it got corrupted and will not open at all. RW said there was an exception. It is now an invalid file format.
Never had this happen before.
Bummer :(

I read you load and clear guys. Undo would be a very good thing. Especially for deleting things.

We did add the layer lock in v2. If there are layers you like, click the little lock icon in the top left corner, then Delete and Delete All won't work on those layers.

Unfortunately, there's nothing like that for Riffs at the moment.

Camaro, try renaming that songfile from .rws to .zip and see if it can be opened. If it can, then I can probably salvage it for you. If it's too corrupt to be opened as a zip file, then it's beyond my powers.

cheers,
dug

Hi Dug

I already sent it before seeing your post here. So I sent it as the rws. format and was unaware of the zip. thing.
Thanks for giving it a go for me. Hopefully I luck out and your magic work. Regardless though it just shows the importance up backing up. I have even said that many times here but didn't make a copy as soon as I should have.

Wedgebill -
From one old fart to another...I like your idea of layers as in Illustrator and Photoshop. It would be so easy and quick to do. So much easier and faster than to do a save as 1, 2 or 3 each and every time a addition to a piece is made. Or a Version Q would also be nice. But, a control z undo would be good enough.

gatorjj -
I gave up alcohol 10 years ago... can I just have a "spring water via junt" feature ?

I agree it would be great to have an undo someday, but in the meantime it's worth having a scheme to protect your work!

jisg - I would think spring water would flow like beer, so yes that would be entirely acceptable! A "cherry squishie" junt would probably have to come a release later though! :D
