:/

Anybody here using an M-Audio Axiom Midi Keyboard with Windows Vista? I know that there no Vista driver yet but have read the Axiom still behaves well.

Assuming the answer is yes, does the accompanying software work?

Hi Ed.

I know absolutly nothing about Vista. Does it still have the compatablity function XP has?
I think if your drivers work then that be the worst of it.......but I'm just guessing here.

Ed, I would expect the keyboard to work fine. My O2 worked in XP without me ever installing any software, so I expect there's some "plug-n-play" MIDI in Windows that will cover you and that carried forward to Vista. Expectations and reality can be two different planes though. ;)

I'd be more concerned with the software you are trying to get it to working with Vista, i.e. Reason, Ableton or whatever your soft synth will be.

Gator, the good news is that Reason 3.0 IS compatible with Vista. Also, I read a reviewer's comment that he was able to "plug and play" an Axiom.

I emailed M-Audio but received a canned response. It makes one appreciate the Sonoma team that much more.

I am not so sure about Ableton Lite. However, I believe the full version is compatible. Wouldn't Reason forego the need for Ableton Lite? I have no experience with that software and don’t know what its function is.

For what you are doing? Yes, Reason probably will be all you need. Live Lite came out with some updates lately, so it might work as well.

Best of luck!!!

Hello All,

Well I have to say that I was one of those who installed Vista 32bit on my system the day it was released. What a torturous few months it has been. Although the majority of software has caught up now and my system is fully running with no glitches at all the biggest problem I had was my Midi Keyboard. Everyday I checked the M Audio website for driver details and still there was nothing, then through sheer luck Vista just installed the keyboard all by itself. Eureka! Hope that this helps. Just plug your USB cable in and let Vista do the rest.

Would I go back to XP!

Rodders: My history with Vista 32 bit is nearly identical. I couldn’t resist upgrading and the first months were…well, a nightmare. Drivers (even beta versions) were rare. In some cases, when drivers became available, the accompanying application's software no longer functioned (Creative’s Audio Console, etc.). Consequently, for a while I desperately missed xp and deeply regretted upgrading.

Now, things are better and about 96% of my software/hardware is working fine. Fortunately, timely updates from Sonoma Wire Works and Line 6 made the transition less traumatic. So I gambled and an M-Audio Axiom keyboard is on its way. However, I would feel more confident if M-Audio would develop and post a Vista driver dowmload. Thanks for the input!
