I am currently using the Riffworks Line 6 Edition V2. I just purchased the Gearbox Plugin for my Podxt Live Pedal. I would like to record the dry signal and then be able to go back and add my effects later. When I try to do this my drums are effected by the effects too, in play back. Is there a way to set this up where I can record a dry signal and then change it later? I'm using my Podxt Live Pedal for the sound card (asio). I don't have another audio set up and I think that I have to use the Riffworks Line 6 Edition w/ my Pedal as the sound card anyway. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to this whole digital recording stuff so please understand that I may not know what I'm talking about.

I believe you are trying to do re-amping. Someone here was working with that about a year ago or so but I can't remember who. I myself have not tried this method yet so am of no help except that you set it up in your ASIO control panel.
Click on audio at lower right hand corner of RW and then open the control panel.
There you will see the various routing options.

In re-reading your post I forgot you said you are using the plug in of GearBox.
I use an xtLive with GearBox but not the plug in.
I hope this still works for ya.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still not sure what to do. I was using just my xt live w/ gearbox and recording straight to riffworks. That works great. I just can't figure out how to re-amp just the guitar signal and not the whole riff so I can go back and change my guitar sound. I'll keep trying different things until someone says it can't be done with my setup. Thanks again for the info.

Havoc,

In GearBox (with the XTL turnrd on of course) Go to toll bar>Edit>Preferences>Hardware tab>Pod XTLive Driver Settings>Audio tab>Advanced>Audio Signal Routing dialog box appears>pull down shows: Send Processed Guitar -Send Clean Guitar - Send Clean Guitar,Re-Amp Playback - Send Re-Amp Playback.

Look in the GearBox Help pdf and there is a page, 110 - discussion on Audio Signal Routing and RE-Amping. Also in the RiffWorks Manual pdf in Chapter 2 under Plug-Ins 2.2.3 - 2.4.3 there is some more info.

From here you're on your own cuz I don't do Re-Amping or have the GearBox plug-ins - I just read a lot. Also do a search here on SWW; there are 3 other threads about this topic.
If none of this works... maybe a call to Line6 Tech Support is in store.

Hope some of this helps, especially if you haven't done or seen these items.

Good Luck,
Mark

I'm going to subscribe to this topic and watch what you find out.

Here is the thread by simonbaker and his results with re-amping. The outcome is probably one of the reasons why I never tried.

that seems pretty convoluted for a re-amping solution AND it involves POD hardware not Gearbox. RW's implimentation of Gearbox & Amplitube is intended to print the effect to the recorded track--that's why you don't see an Amp page on the Layer Effects. maybe they'll do it in future releases.

Thanks for the replies. I plan on working on it later today. In the meantime, I will read up in the manuals. I still have hope.

Havoc, are you able to get the bass models and vocal preamps to showup in gearbox? I just bought the plugin and don't see the preamps or bass models. I'm not worried about reamping, but I'd like to use the preamp models for vocals and stuff. I'm using it with my PodXT. It works fine from ProTools, but I know RiffWorks works a bit differently.

Hey dbagchee,

The plugin add-on gives you the ability to use the models you currently have as plugins but does not give you additional models. You can purchase the bass add-on for your podxt and then you'll have access to those models as plugins. The microphone preamp models are currently only available on the Toneport line.

Actually I think they just changed that recently. Now, when I use Gearbox as a plugin, I get the "Silver" plugin stuff - all the vocal preamps and a few bass models. Since I already had all the Model Packs installed (except for Bass pack) I have everything available from the plugin that's in the "Gold" bundle except for the additional bass models.

However if I just run the standalone Gearbox app only the model packs show up. :(

Oh well - any plans on adding VST support to the Line 6 edition? :D

I'm also seeing if I can wrap the Gearbox VST somehow through Rewire.

Dbagchee,

You're right. They did change it. Purchasing the Plugin gives you all the plugin models in the Silver Gearbox package (Toneport UX1/UX2). But, it does not allow you to use them in the standalone app. You'll need a Toneport in order to do that. But, if you pick up a Toneport UX1, for $129, you could transfer your plugin and model packs to it, and then have all the models you use now plus the preamp models and the bass stuff.

I know that Rewire support for Gearbox is something that they're working on as well. How or when it will work, I have no idea.
