Jim Dalrymple just reviewed RiffWorks in an article for Macworld.com. Jim has been using RiffWorks since Macworld Expo '06 and has been a fan of this fun guitar recording software ever since! Following is an excerpt from his article, which goes into much more detail about how to use the program.

"[Sonoma Wire Works] has taken a new approach to helping musicians create music and, in the short time I've been using it, I have found that it really works for me."

"With the release of RiffWorks 2, Sonoma Wire Works has changed the way I think about building a song. Instead of the interface I'm used to seeing — the audio and instrument channels on the left side and the timeline on the right, like GarageBand — RiffWorks presents itself as a collection of riffs split into three parts: Riff Recorder, Riffs and Song."

"To build your song, you just drag the riffs to the song timeline. The great thing about RiffWorks is that you can drag the riffs into the song in any order you like. This makes the song highly configurable and very easy to manage."

"RiffWorks, which is priced at $169, is a brilliant application that is a must-have in my collection of music applications. With built-in effects, support for Audio Units and its built-in drummer, RiffWorks has everything you need to create killer songs."

Read entire article here with more details about how Jim uses the app:

I'd give up my wife and kids to have had that opportunity!! (OK, well ... maybe just my wife! :D)
I am SO jealous, but thanks for sharing the clip!! It certainly made my night!

Here are some tributes to 'My Hero' that were done with RiffWorks. I am, however, not worthy ...

Well I must admit...after learning of the Guitarport and riffworks.....I started playing again. i wish I had more time to play, but I had almost given up when TJ (Chip) turned me onto this great stuff. I would describe it as life changing.......

I met the Line 6 rep at a store I frequent about 6 months ago.......the sales guy at the store wanted us to meet since I raved as much as I did about the GP. After I chatted with other local store employees and owners about GP/RW they have been pushing and selling them.....one guy ran a huge ad in the paper last week he sells Pods and Spider amps now.

Plus I met or have chatted with all of you folks...yeah I would say life changing is a good description of the experience. :)

I say this again and again but RiffWorks is not a great product but a great experience. I remember thinking it looked like fun to play with and next thing you know I'm in this cool community, collaborating, sharing and getting up every morning excited about music, which makes me excited about life!

I think there's some magic dust in there somewhere, how else do you explain it? After all we're just recording audio....right????! :D

I've been going around the ASCAP Expo preaching the virtues of RiffWorks like it's gospel. I talked to a nice woman from Performing Songwriter Magazine about it yesterday.
Check out some of my Tunes on My Space and send me a friend request.

To Gator and Shred, there you have it in a nutshell, Nearly !!!

There has always been music in my life that has moved me in one way or another, since losing my son most of it moved me to grieve. Playing and singing it was a complete no no for 11yrs until I found RiffWorks. I'd had a go with Cubase, Band-in-a-Box etc etc etc, didn't get on with any of em. I even bought a fancy karaoke machine to try and get my missus to sing again..........some hopes there, if it ain't in the right key for a perfectionist and you change it to suit and everything sounds like farting in a digital corned beef tin !!!

I think the real magic dust is the doorway to the community of wonderful people and musicians on here, inspiring us all to greater heights of creativity.

As to Scotty, there was a Scottish bloke who wrote stuff about other stuff, name of Burns, who said-ish "Oh would the gift that God could gi' us to see ourselves as others see us"

There's the magic, you've probably seen me singing about dustbins and thought "Sh*t I didn't realise he was that much of an old fart !!!" I know this to be a probabilty because that's what I thought when I saw it !!!! HaHa

Having just collaborated on a song with Roy Jackson (aged 15), Beauzeau (a shredder maybe ?) and Terry A345stud (country singer, no doubt) and previously Scotty and others, I've mused to myself, "Can you imagine this virtual band getting together in the real world ?" I seriously doubt it !!!

So there you have it, I can hear you, I don't have to look at you, I can read what you say, I can try to help you, I can make you feel good about what you posted for me to hear etc etc and vice-versa so we're doing more than just recording audio Gator, don't you think ?

I'm not really sure where your missus figures in all this Scotty but I suggest you keep her away from the forum................HaHa

I'd never heard of that magazine until I got a sample sub with my little M-Audio MIDI controller. Very rarely does a magazine so hit the nail on the head, but that one's a keeper!
