Hi aboyes,

Updating to the recent version is not hard :-):

Here's the RiffWorks Guide:
http://www.sonomawireworks.com/guide/index.php/RiffWorks_Guide

Which includes a link to the Installation Instructions for RiffWorks Line 6 Edition:
http://www.sonomawireworks.com/guide/index.php/RiffWorks_Line_6_Edition

RiffWorks Line 6 Edition has been updated to version 2.1. To get this update, launch RiffWorks and click "Yes" in the window that asks you if you'd like to update. You will be taken to a page with the download link.

Welcome!

Hi again,

Don't believe Mr humble Camaro Tim, he can play like crazy boyo, he needs to if he's gonna wear silly hats all the time. 512 Gig will get you going, maybe glitchy on riff connections if you put too many layers in a riff. 1gb better, I think 2gb ideal. Turn off as many background apps as you can, don't have an email checker running etc. You'll be ok. 01480-211441 if you get stuck mate.

Make 1 million percent sure you register everything with exactly the same Sonoma password key name. Double check caps lock etc or you'll get all manner of silly stuff happening.

If you can work out how to turn your computer on you can operate RiffWorks it's that simple. Upgrade everything asap Riffworks 2.1 now, drivers etc, check download site and get everything that looks relevant, check everything out in Line6 Monkey. get gearbox blah blah blah. I did it no probs and I'm an even older fart now.

Cant help with Guitarport but don't imagine it's vastly different to Toneport, you need gearbox or previous to be running to hear guitar etc.

Get a Myspace account asap, check this lot out, good for a laugh mate

Michelle,

Thanks. I obviously don't look hard enough to find the information myself. Silly me.

Its sounds straight forward enough.

Only 20mins left of work and 30 mins to get home then I can finally get it installed!

Can't wait

hi aboyes im also from the u.k Grimsby,Lincolnshire to be exact let me just say riffworks is an absolute godsend to a writing guitarist, personally after years of using every DAW under the sun ive actually found something that gives you the freedom to get your ideas down quick and build songs in no time at all,its such a breeze to use and so inspirational no stopping all the time to read a help manual. Also the guys on the forums are really friendly and helpfull.Watch it though its very addictive family and friends may not see you for a while.

I ran version 1 at 512 in a notebook P4 and then took it too 1gig. 512 was problems hanging a bit but then again heat build up is greater too in notebooks.
I just think 512 is bit out of range. There's a lot of audio processing going on. He11....I am running 2 and wish I could up to 4. I'll do that before I upgrade to Vista LOL

Cool!

Hmm I got this error on the line 6 monkey

You seem to have one or more drives in PIO mode.

What does this mean?

Your hard drive uses one of two ways to transfer information in and out of memory - either DMA (direct memory access) or PIO (programmed input/output).
PIO is a very inefficient method of data transfer and it hinders the performance. You must have a hard disk set to PIO mode.
I have an older PC that defaults back to PIO if it sits too long and reverts to standby mode. It will make RiffWorks sound very jumpy during playbacks because of the poor data transfer rates.
I hope this helps.
Cheers!

Adam,
From the Line6 Monkey, which drive is it saying has the PIO problem? If it's your CD/DVD drive, it's not an issue.
If you highlight the PIO problem in the Monkey and click 'Support' it takes you to the Line6 support page. Here's what someone's posted there ...

All of your computer's IDE/ATAPI Drives should be in DMA mode.

(Adam, note it says "IDE/ATAPI drives", ie. your hard disk, not the CD/DVD)

By default, Windows often configures IDE Hard Drives and IDE/ATAPI CD-ROM's to use PIO (Programmed Input/Output) mode. Unfortunately, this mode is slow and very processor-intensive, and can interfere with Tone Core's audio stream (as well as slowing your computer down anyway).

It is preferable to configure your Hard Drives and CD-ROM's to use DMA (Direct Memory Access) mode. This offers better performance with less CPU usage. You should check your drives' users manuals prior to changing this setting to make sure they support DMA mode. Some older drives that do not support DMA mode properly and may corrupt data if you attempt to use DMA mode.

To configure your drives to use DMA mode under Windows 2000:

Click on the Start button, and select Settings->Control Panel.
Double-Click the System icon.
Select the Hardware tab, and press the Device Manager button.
Select the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers tree and open it.
Check each IDE channel to make sure the Transfer Mode is set to DMA if available.
You must reboot your machine if you make changes to these settings.

To configure your drives to use DMA mode under Windows XP:

Click on the Start button, and select Settings->Control Panel.
Double-Click the System icon.
Select the Hardware tab, and press the Device Manager button.
Select the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers tree and open it.
Right Click each IDE channel and choose properties.
Choose the advanced settings tab.
Make sure the Transfer Mode is set to DMA if available.
You must reboot your machine if you make changes to these settings.

To configure your drives to use DMA mode under Windows 98/ME:

Click on the Start button, and select Settings->Control Panel.
Double-Click the System icon.
Select the Device Manager tab.
Select each IDE drive or CD-ROM drive and hit Properties
Go to the Settings tab on the device and ensure that the DMA box is checked.
You must reboot your machine if you make changes to these settings.

I hope this helps!
Cheers!
