Hiya,

I don't own a Bass at the moment and think that when I come around to getting a track sorted it'll sound a little on the thin side without a Bass guitar on it!

Who records bass on their tracks or is there anything anyone can suggest in the short term to make the tack sound a bit meatier?

Maybe a mix trick?

Thanks,
Adam

Yo Adam click on the Monitor panel, Effects so the red light is on, click the yellow window (select) under effects pre-sets, factory, guitar tones, and Fake-O-Bass ....Voila instant bass! Some guys use that when they have no bass.......you don't need GearBox fired up either. give 'r a go and let us know how that works out for you.

Cool man Cheers!

Is this in Riffworks itself? I'm using the Line 6 gearbox for my tones at the moment so how does it create a bass sound?

I havent really used Riffworks/Line 6 stuff since I got it on Weds so am gonna get familiar with it later

Cool! Cant wait!!

axevictim,

What type of amp plug-in do you use while using Gear Box to get the bass sounds? Do you use an octave divider?

Cheers for the responses.

I droped the tuning to D and recorded a bass sound with the presets in Gearbox and then added the Fake o bass effect afterwards and it came out ok.

I think I need to tweek the settings a little to make it sound better, but it will do for the minute anyway

Hey, Aboyes, these responses are from the best clued up guys so your gonna be motoring soon. A coupla months back I was in the same boat as you, had no clue about the clever stuff in RiffWorks etc and found a fake bass setting on my Line 6 POD XT Live. I wasn't happy with it so I went in our local dept store with a music section and lo n behold, cheapo Nevada Bass guitar £100, does the trick, stays in tune, got it bolted on my Zimmerframe :P

Only problem was I had gone downtown to collect my new glasses from the opticians and when I got back home my missus said whatever sorta glasses you got in a f**king great case like that then !!!!!!!!!

All I gotta do now is find my glasses to see where all them deep soundin' notes are comin' from

Lol :)

I'm really impressed with Riffworks. I did a really quick 1 min demo with a intro, verse bridge and Chorus last night without reading the manual and it came out ok. I'm not happy with the final WAV mix but I'm sure as time goes on the mixes should get better?

Anyway I'll start a new thread later asking for some mixing tips etc

RW is the easiest recording package I have ever seen. May I suggest that if you do a search in the forums on mix or mixing you will find a plethora of great information. I'm not suggesting that you not start a new thread, I'm just saying there has been much discussion on this subject to date. Can't wait to hear you cast something.

You know something?? That's a bloody good idea :)

I'll have a dig about and see what I can find. I want to cast something but I want to make sure I've got it sounding sweet before I do.

The one I did last night lacked something....a bit too flat and lacking any energy.

I'm gonna have a listen to some of the songs posted here to listen to some peoples mixes and what I think would suit my ideas.

Some of the mixes are pro quality. I'm not sure how they do it. I'm never happy with any mix I post. LOL.

Hey Uncle Bill -
I have been using an XTL for 3 years and have never found a fake bass setting except for my bass expansion pack. Are you referring to some of the presets? where is this XTL fake bass setting/patch anyway? If you wouldn't mind letting me know I would appreciate it.

as a way OT side note:
I thought I knew just about everything this great piece of equipment can do since it usually robs me of practice time as I tweak and tryout customtone patches and spend time trying out all the bundles from the Share Bundle thread. The XTL and Variax and the Line6 forum and of course the infamous RiffWorks have really got my 53 year old butt into playing more after starting at age 8. But as an Effects Junky to start with (not to be confused with a RiffLink Junky) this thing just sucks up my "lets get serious and productive and play and learn and write and record" time big.

thanks,
Mark

hi RWL1967 Theres a few bass settings in gearbox but i find i use the 1974rock classic more than anything, also i find the compressor makes or breaks the sound,i always get my basic sound and then use the compressor at the end as a sort of volume, seems to work for me.theres also the Fliptop, adam and eve, silverface and eighties all worth checking out in gearbox.
