I have been using an XTL for 3 years and have never found a fake bass setting except for my bass expansion pack. Are you referring to some of the presets? where is this XTL fake bass setting/patch anyway? If you wouldn't mind letting me know I would appreciate it.

Hey Mark, nice to see more old farts coming out of the woodwork...HaHa

I'm not 100% sure as I just had a quick look but didn't have stuff plugged in. I reckon the fake bass setting is 10.A FX/Sub Octave on my Pod. I never set it, it was there from the get go so I suppose it's in the FX Pack.

Hope you find it, it's a bit like a cheap octivider, if you play too loud using 6 string it sorta wobbles about between 6 string and bass sound with a bit of crap thrown in for good measure !!!

Oh yeah Bill -

I know that patch, it uses the FX Double Bass (-1 & -2 octave below synth effect). I know the wobble (more than one string at a time thing), the XTL can't track more than one string with those effects.
I been using my Variax with some bass patches found on The Institute of Noise site (tuned down a full octave) and my Roland GR-20 (a few electric P bass and fretless patches there) through the BX pack amps. Works for me.
The Atomic 112-50 is first on my wish list before a real bass. To think I had a pre-CBS Jazz and sold it for rent in the 70's...sheeesh!

Thanks my man,
Mark

Ok Mark sounds like you know the one I mean, used it for a while until couldn't stand it any longer. I plan to get a Variax 600 as soon as funds allow (or until I get too impatient hehe)

I know what you mean about selling stuff to pay the rent, I had a Rickenbacher semi acoustic bass, ukulele banjo and 5 string banjo go the same way. It sucks mate :(

Until I got my Rickenbacker’s tuning key repaired, I recorded a lot of material using my Strat for bass parts. Actually, it didn’t sound all that bad until I started using the Rick with the L6 bass expansion model pack (which is a bit pricey). Now, I’m re-recording a number of tunes.

You might consider, as recommended above, purchasing a cheap or used bass – it will make a significant difference.

By the way Mark, you will love the Atomic 112-50 for its pure and clean tone – great with the PODxt. I own a 112-50 and my Peavey compo amp doesn’t even compare.

For those people who don't have bass guitars. Try to use an octave divider in Gearbox and turn the Octave 1 knob all the way up. It will give you a bass sound. It's not quite authentic, but it will do the trick.
