hi guys,

i need some help. i have the riffworks line6 ed and my pc freezes alot and can't get anything done, really.

i have pent 4 and just got a external hd 80gb usb, please tell me this will fix everything. =D

how do i do it? uninstall the whole program and then reinstall on the hd?

what about the works and such i have already started?
i have refrained from buying anything more coz i didn't want to have it end not being used.

it would be nice to have the hd just for music and free up the pc for regular stuff.

is this possible and how would it be done?
1. connect hd or uninstall riffworks and gearbox and monkey?

2. reinstall everything and go through the upgrades again?

3. would i need to install antivirus and such or would somethings naturally crossover?

4. i'm a non tech guy and need simple instuctions. would internet be connected?

5. how can i keep the hd for music only.

6. wouldn't i need a browser like explorer or something?

7. i think if all hooked up, i turn on the pc and go to my computer and click on the external drive and then it will open up to RW and proceed from there?

8. i have windows 98 and 2000xp, would it make any diff to use either one? (i always use 2000)

anybody do this? wouldn't it be easy to do?

thanks in advance!

Me too, I'm interested in how folks use an external drive. I'm guessing you probably can't boot from the ext. drive (or can you?).

Do you put the apps and the files on the ext. drive or just the music files? What about backup? I backup my C drive to another ext. drive using Retrospect. How do I integrate a new music ext. drive so I can back it up, too? My C drive is getting too full with all my iTunes and other music stuff.

Thanks!

Here's what I do. I have two internal drives of the same speed. My primary drive holds all my applications and windows.

My second drive is for recording to, and for data storage. At the start of my second drive I have made a 25 GB partition, I don't put anything there at all. It doesnt really need to be that big but oh well. If you do any video capturing this area will be extremely helpful. All of my temporary audio video recordings go there. The data is streaming to the fastest part of the disk. Just dont name the drive "temp" or windows will erase everything on it when delete temp files haha. Everything else is for storing data files. When I click on MY DOCUMENTS etc it takes me to this drive.

Currently I have yet another external drive for backups, but I could easily put them on the second drive. I lean to caution because my hard drives are about 6 years old now. I've had one go bad at 5 years because of the excessive use.

You can set em up anyway that suits your needs, I'm not good with Fdisk so I use partition magic.
