Hi folks,

I was wondering if anyone here has had a problem with the RiffWorks EQ. It's worked for me maybe once. The interface for the EQ is as simple as it could be (like the rest of the program), so I don't think it's my own ignorance (which is the usual culprit).

I can twist the top 3 knobs (low, mid, and high), but they have no effect. The 5 trim knobs below don't even move, despite furious mouse clickage and profuse mutterance of expletives. The EQ tab is checked (meaning the effect for that layer should be active). I've had no problems with any of the other Layer Effects - they all work great and I love them all.

Anyone else had a problem like this? Is there anything I can do? I'm using RW Line 6 Edition under XP SP2.

Hi,

It sounds like you're using it correctly, but you didn't specify which EQ you're using. It's located in four different places:

1. Input Effects
2. Layer Effects
3. Backup Effects
4. Riff Effects

Which one are you using and what part of the signal are you trying to manipulate?

Cheers,
Randy

Rickwest you're my hero (I have all of your 'casts on my ipod too!). I tried your suggestion and it worked. And just when I thought I'd clicked them little bastards every way possible! Turns out it was my own stupidity after all. Why am I not surprised?

Thanks also to randy for responding mere minutes after my post. I've always said that when it comes to support, the folks at SWW are on the ball.

I didn't even know that EQ was located in all those places. I thought it was only the Layer Effects, which is what I'm using.

I've been frustrated as hell with those knobs too! I eventually get them to move, but its always after several tries. I can't wait to try Ricks method.

OK, so you're trying to adjust the EQ settings on a layer that you've already recorded. Right? I know it's pretty straight forward, but as a test please check the EQ box on the layer you're working with. Now turn the upper MID knob to +18 DB boost. Now turn the lower MID knob around while the layer is playing to see if you hear any differences on that layer.

Thanks!

Hey randy - yes, I'm modifying EQ settings on a Layer I've already recorded. I was able to get it to work using Rickwest's suggestion. It was so easy in fact that I felt like an idiot for making a post about it in the first place :)

It seems as though the 5 trim "knobs" on the EQ are quite finicky (although the 3 main knobs, low-mid-high, aren't as picky). You have to click *dead center* in the middle of the button and drag straight up or down. Clicking slightly off-center and dragging at, say, a 10 degree angle does nothing.

Although I really like RW's interface, I'm not a huge fan of "knobs" in a software environment. Sliders seem to work more precisely when using a mouse, but with the way RW is laid out, knobs really are the natural choice.

Still, RW is about the coolest app I've ever tried for instant-gratification recording. And if you're willing to spend some time with it, you can get really nice results. I recommend it to all my musician friends.

I like the knobs but I've thought it would be sweet if they were notched or had a tooltip with a value in it, like 1 to 100, for precise dialing.
