Hi,

I was wondering if anyonw knows of a way to import an audio track into RiffWorks? I have a lot of "Jam" backing track CDs and it would be great if I could import them and play over them in RW?

Any ideas?

Thanks

djolie -

Here is an interesting thread about your question http://www.sonomawireworks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=1947

Here is my Simpleton's WAV - mp3 work around while I'm waiting for more import options:
My low tech way to do this is to set a number of measures up in RW and run the audio into my pod XT Live's guitar 1/4" input. It takes a few tries to get the number of measures correct without having too much left at the end or to cut off the end. And hitting the RW record button and the audio in play button in synch not to have blank space at the beginning is not that challenging. Not the best quality sound but it will give you a Riff track to jam, play and record with in RW. Of course - virtually impossible to synch the drums if you wish to spice up the beat.
I have even tried to record some bass wav loops that I purchased but can't get the drums to synch at all. The Rex bass loops are great.
This is where a wav player addition to this great little program will really make RW excellent for me (IMO).
I know that if I had ReCycle I could convert to REX.
I'm sure gator has better advice to add.

Jisg pretty much layed out the simple way to do it. The sound degradation comes from the XT, POD or GuitarPort input being mono, but it works okay.

I usually put the backing track into a long riff so you can either record in the riff itself or over it in the songlayer. Check out my Backing Tracks page for more info. If you are just looking to "jam" with a backing track and not necessarily record, something like the player in the GearBox application (if you're using a Line6 device) would be ideal.

I use the rewire method. If you know the exact tempo of the recorded material, and it needs to be real exact, you can record it in in chunks but requires some work. Or just record it in in one big piece by setting the length in riffworks to match the length of the audio file in your rewire application.

Real though you only need wmp or winamp to jam along, or the track ripper in Gearbox is perfect.

Abelton Live Lite 4. I just switch to soundcard asio driver and record it in. This way its done digitally so there isn't any quality loss.

A few months ago I wrote about simple method for editing a riff in external editor. It is easy to import files that way. Tray, it works. :)
