Hi,

I need a little help if possible please..............

I start Riffworks & then start Reason but when I go to the Rewire tab it won't let me tick the box.....any ideas?

Information that may help:-

1. I'm using a Guitarport & the audio setup in Riffworks say 'ASIO Guitarport'

2. I can hear sound being generated by Reason, as long as I select the audio card driver as anything other than 'ASIO Guitarport'. If I choose this option a red X appears & I get nothing.

Check to see what version ReWire dll you have in your system 32 folder. You can get the lastest one at Propellarheads site. It should be version 1.7.0.4096 (unless they've a newer one).
You also might want to use GearBox instead of GuitarPort. Not sure if that matters or not.

I downloaded the Rewire dll & that solved the problem with me be able to select Rewire in Riffworks, however now when I start Reason after Riffworks, it either crashes both programs or shuts down my PC!

Any other ideas?

By the way, I do have Gearbox but the device name is still called Guitarport.

I am running on a PentiumD 3.2 ghz w/2 gig ram. What are your specs. I would think you would need at least 1 gig ram and in fact most RW users alone seem to have problems below this.

I'm using an Intel Celeron 450 2GHz with 1 gig of ram.

I'm not sure it's anything to do with the power of the computer as if I start Reason first I can then start Riffworks & the computer doesn't seem to have a problem handling them both. I think the issue is something to do with the audio setup as once I start Reason it shows the audio card driver as 'ASIO Guitarport' but when I then start Riffworks the audio device in there is blank, & it won't let me select anything? If I start the programs the other way around it just crashes.

What audio device should each program be using?

Celerons are (from what I have heard) not the best for DAWs

If you start Reason don't bother lauching RW. Reason now has control of the ASIO device and that is why it is showing it. RW doesn't ReWire as a slave so it is useless at this point.
The proper way to use the 2 programs together is launch RW and let it completely open. Then launch Reason.
Reason should at this point ReWire to RW as a slave. Reason's sound during ReWire is now controled by RW.
If you are crashing doing this it leads me to think there is some kind of conflict. Many here have used the 2 together with no problems which makes me wonder about the Celeron processor.
Also.....many seem to find 1 gig ram to run RW2 the best. You might be a bit short there too with the 2 programs running.
Hopefully somebody else chime in here.

Wish you luck on this.

One other thing I would do is run the Monkey and make sure your drivers are up to date.

I've checked & reinstalled the guitarport drivers and they seem fine so I'm not sure what else to do. I guess it's some sort of soundcard conflict as you say.

Anyway, thanks for your help & we'll see if anybody else has any ideas.

Hi,

It really can't be an audio device conflict. As camaro24gold pointed out, the proper way to use Reason as a ReWire device is to first launch RiffWorks and once it has fully opened then start Reason. If ReWire is working properly, you'll see Reason listed in the ReWire tab in RiffWorks.

If you don't see Reason listed, then you need to confirm that you're using the latest ReWire.dll (as mentioned earlier). You should be using at least version number 1.7.0.4096. Which version do you have installed?
