I normally record an 8 bar track, then mix several of them together to form one long riff, then record a solo on top of that (to play continuously longer than 8 bars). this longer length seems to choke rifflink and the sound is garbled. do I have to stick to 8 bars? Also, a general riffworks question, is mixing togther groups of riffs the only way to play a continous solo(longer than one 8 bar riff)? thanks guys

mix your song to "riff" in the mix window..you can consolodate you 8 bar riffs togeather as 1..then solo over that...i use r.works like a multi track at times..just set a whole mess of measures in the tempo/measure box...peace..

thanks Strat. I didn't state my question well. mixing them together is what I do all time,I was having trouble importing into a rifflink session. the longer lengths seem to not work when importing. Do you find this to be true?

Yes i do, at times i have imported whole song of riffs and no problem to get them to stick[as long as i record a scratch track to one of the imported riffs or the default riff]. other times i cant import nothing that stays or it works intermitingly..you can try importing 1 or 2 riffs at a time and build it up in several log ins..that might help..

strat, looks like any riff where you mix to a compound riff doesn't work! In rifflink I created a 4 bar riff, dragged it to the top twice, mixed it to an 8 bar riff, and the 8 bar riff is all static, just like when I import it. be nice if they can solve this. I know the idea is to collaborate and record in the rifflink session, but in my case I wanted Mickey to add vocals to a song I already recorded, and now i have to record it again in rifflink. Oh well, I need the practice anyway

Mix to riff imported tracks does not work right for me. It sounds like all the layers are mixed to the center. I encountered this a couple days ago.

Import song. Mix to riff to make rex backups permanent. Layers that were panned left and right now sound like they are munched together in the center.

Thats because Rifflink saves the actual audio as mono. All the stereo effects and panning that normally are created locally on your machine are now mixed down into mono when you mix to riff in Rifflink.
