I believe Reason 4 was just released.

September 26th. Looks like it's a major overhaul. I checked out some samples for Thor, and the Sacred Feminine sounds real good. Definitely usable in some rock ballads. Thanks for bringing it up as I didn't know they were planning a new version anytime soon.

But I am only cheap when the purchase is not practical. Reason is amazing stuff......but I see no value in it. I have enough time sucking entities in my life as it is.....lol

Ha! Did you ever settle on an amp?

No never did.......I browse the ebays and kajijis looking all the time hoping to find a good deal on a used Flextone or something like that. But alas no luck yet.....

I should have mentioned earlier...the drums in reason do sound great, there are some rock kit variations that are more than capable of competing with the sound quality of an ID. I was dabbling at making loops at one point........

And Gator.....the guru.........was right again. I can't tell you how sick I am of having to admit that!

What I use is "Jamstix", in conjunction with Sonar and/or Project 5. I then add them to my RW project by either using "IntelliRiffer", or rewire. Jamstix is great--especially the new version, which I'm just gettting up to speed on. If you haven't already, you can check it out at www.rayzoon.com

Jamstix looks pretty cool, but again I'm using the Line 6 version of Riffworks so plug-ins are out of the question :(

Maybe I need to just bite the bullet and crossgrade.

In all my years Mickey, no one has ever said that to me before. :P

For those of you using RiffWorks Standard, how well do VST plugins tend to work with it? Do they have a relatively small footprint in the way of system resources? I've got 1 gig of ram.

If you've got 1 gb of ram, all you need now is $29 and you're away ;)

I have never regretted "crossing over." The freedom to choose is well worth it.

Maybe Gator and Pooter will have to have a bite together ;)

As for crossing over, I'm currently looking for a Berlitz translator for posh/pigeon stuff

I use drumcore, it can export its content as rex files. Works great.

I crossgraded about a week ago so I can now use VSTs. Drumcore looks really cool, but at $250, it's kinda pricey.

Poot, you can use VST's like Amplitube but not VSTi's (instrument) like DrumCore (they require MIDI). A small but important distinction.

What Robbie111 is doing with it is exporting REX files and then using those in the REXPlayer in Riffworks. That is a cool capability!

I hear ya gator.....I learned I can't use vst instruments without midi pretty quick after crossgrading.

I'm still looking for a drum solution that will allow deeper editing than Instant Drummers do that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and doesn't require my using 5 different programs to simply create a beat and get it into riffworks. Jamstix seems to be the front runner so far. I've got an old Alesis drum machine here somewhere, I might have to pull that sucker out and see how it sounds through the GuitarPort :P
