Hi ,

I currently own RW line 6 Edition (using with podxtl).

I was wondering if the standard version supports vst plugins. i Know it supports amplitube, but can it use any other vst that i might have.

i came across some good audio triggered vst's today and they are quite interesting and couple of them can be real time savers, like adding some hit to drum loop (triggered via your guitar) .

Here is the link to those vst plugins if any one gonna give them a try with standalone and if they work and let me know so i can upgrade rw soon. Link to Vst's : http://frettedsynth.asseca.com/ats.htm

I liked the trampler quite a bit and can add hits or snare rolls by plying on the guitar. A POOR man's guitar synth perhaps.

Also if any one uses some other useful audio triggered vst's please do let me know.

BTW : if the audio from vst's does not hold long try to throw in a compressor first , that should stablize sustain a bit.

hey atalwar,

Yes, Riffworks Standard supports vst plugins, but the Line 6 version does not. That's precisely why I crossgraded (only 29 bucks). Not a bad price to pay for all the vst goodness it gives you access to. I could spend days googling vst's. Hmm that sounded vaguely dirty.....

Here's what I think about the plugins you mentioned:

The trampler seems like a "long way around" version of what a program like Acid excels at - making beats from a wav file. With trampler you'd be limited to laying down one drum/cymbal hit at a time, although the tracking on it is decent.

The bass synth sounds pretty awful to me, and I think I twisted every knob it had, just couldn't get a good sound out of it - tracking is also very poor.

Complete Drums is just the thing I was looking for, a quick way to lay down a beat that's specifically tailored to a given riff, without having to rely on loops or IDs. Unfortunately, it crashed Riffworks on me one time, and didn't hear anything I did when I finally got it to load.

The only one I thought was interesting that I'll definitely have to play with more is the String Sculptor. The tracking on it was the best of the bunch, and you could get a wide variety of sounds out of it, though it seemed like they were all boomy no matter what I did.

For all these I used a Fender Telecaster with the pups in the neck position through a Guitar Port on XP Pro. If anyone has any luck with Complete Drums or knows of a good equivalent let me know! :)

VST's are only on the live input.

Thx pooterpatty,

I Agree on tracking on bass and the awful sound it made the first time. (my fault though, as hit the open low E string). i could hear someone cry across the road and perhaps a couple more running here and there :).

For most loop work i use ableton live. Never Really got hang of acid. For some occasions throwing a hit here or there this vst seemed a good option , like adding a crash or minute variation here and there. without jumping into another program.

i couldn't get great sound from string sculptor either but i think with a couple of tweaks here and spending some time perhaps few decent sounds can be attained.

I Heard a guy couple of days back and he was playing some good synth lines through some KORG vst. so wondered if it was possible directly in RW. Now that i know it supports vst, i can probably use my good old vocoder for some crazy stuff.

Like GuitarSlinger said, you can only use VSTs on the input, so they can't be applied to layers after the fact. They also do not interact with the InstantDrummer.
