I've been thinking about this for a while, but haven't been able to figure out an intelligible way to put it into words until chatting with another RiffLinker.

I'd like the ability to arbitrarily change how long a drum loop or ID plays within a given riff. That way if I have a 4-bar riff and I want a drum fill at the end of it, I can have an Instant Drummer handle 3 bars, then a 1-bar fill from a Rex loop, or something like that. If the Song can have a timeline where I can move the little blocks around, why not the drums too?

Can I get an Amen?

That would be OK but the ID and the REX file would have different tones so I think it wouldn't sound too smooth. Other than that it is a good idea.

You could also do it with nothing but rex files. My main point is that I've got a bazillion rex files I've bought that have both straight beats and fills, but the fills are only 1 bar, so I have to create another riff if I want to use them, which creates a lot more work on my part, and I'm inherently lazy.

Another idea for the lazy people among us (me), could you create a save function for the fadein/fadeout feature (the info button). I often make riffs 8 bars in length (so I have to draw a line, instead of the bars, which goes a bit faster), and I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to the production side of things, so I always draw the fadein/fadeout one miniscule step at a time to make sure it is completely uniform, and the gradient is the same everywhere. Problem is that this takes a lot of time, and I often record 2 seperately recorded layers for one guitar riff, and fadein the drums too, which makes me have to do this 3 times for just one fadein (my songs often have more than one). If there was a function to just save a certain fadein/fadeout that I've already drawn (or even presets of perfectly aligned ones for any bar length and starting/ending at any bar that you can select), I could make one perfect one and just save it and load it every time I want a good fadein/out. I know, this is a minor thing but it would really save time, and shouldn't be that hard to do (I think).

I second these points in a BIG way!! It's not a matter of being lazy (although, I am certainly THAT) so much as keepin' the flow moving so we can create quickly and easily. That's the whole point of RiffWorks to me.

A simple automation (volume) control on both, the instant drummer and REX loops would fix this in a hurry. That way you could fade in/out, crossfade parts, etc. All that is needed is to add the "info" button functionality to each of the "backups" and you'll have it!

Can it be done? Has it been considered?? I hope so!!

I would like to see control surface support,i like faders.nothing big just some of the smaller 8 fader ones
Nothing is impossible for the person who doesn't have to do it.

I think faders are a good idea. Trying to control a rotational knob with a mouse isn't always easy. A vertical 'up' and 'down' would be simpler.
Cheers!

A few simple presets for the fades would be helpful. Quick fade, linear fade the length of the riff, quick fade in, and linear fade in. Or set a marker and fade or drag to a certain length. I would love deeper instant drummer/rex editing too. Great suggestions.
