I'm thinking about buying Riffworks and have some questions:

Can you set the temo by keying a number or only by strumming?
MIDI compatable?
Would it mean I could sell my Jamman looper?

Thanks

Hi Belmontboy and welcome to the RiffWorks forum.

Firstly, don't think too much about it ... just buy! You'll hopefully see from the forum that RiffWorks users are total converts to the software.

In terms of tempo setting...yes, you can key in your BPM, bar length and time sig or you can 'arm' the JUNT feature and by strumming four muted chords you can start the process.
If your audio device is MIDI compatible then RiffWorks should handle it.
Selling your Jamman would be up to you but you'd be best to download the RiffWorks demo, try it out and then figure out for yourself whether or not your looper can go.
Go on ... make the jump!

PS All new members have to abide by the forum rule of supplying everyone else with beer. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ... beer!! :)
Cheers!

When you say "MIDI compatible" there's no sequencer capability in RiffWorks, it's not like Ableton Live for example (though you can Rewire an Ableton or Reason to it and do some really cool stuff).

I agree with Scott, download the free demo and get to know it!

At the risk of looking very stupid! I've got no volume coming out of my laptop for RiffWorks but have for every other application. All the levels are showing that it should be making a noise. I can even transfer the file to my desktop and they work fine.....not a great solution though. What I’m I doing wrong?

I'm using a podx3. But that's okay beacause I can transfer the file to the pc and it plays okay. It's like I've got a master volume switch turned off!

If you have headphones, can you plug them in to the X3 and hear anything?
Check the Audio Setup button at the bottom right of the RW screen to make sure your ASIO device is being picked up by the software.
Cheers!

The riff records okay. The headphones work okay.
It just will not make any sound through the laptop speaker.

So I intalled it on a mates Sony VAIO vgntx3xp exactly the same model.... and guess what same thing happens.

Also they don't seem to download any amps! Will it not work without amp?

I transfered the exe file on a memory stick maybe it has to be an original download or it wont work?

Anyway if anyone has any ideas and tanks all for the help so far.

Cheers

If I install riffworks and just press the lower play button I hear the metronome on the pc on the laptop nothing however the levels show the beat in time to the marker on the bars.
Agian I guess it could be due to no amps being installed.

If you have external speakers, they can be plugged in to the PODx3 left/right outs. Other wise, if it's your laptop speakers, the audio setup in RW will have to be configured for the computer's soundcard. Again, check the Audio Setup button and change the ASIO device to your soundcard.
Cheers!

Probably the internal audio card of your laptop does not have ASIO drivers. Then you cannot hear RW in the notebook speakers. you need to install ASIO4ALL, asio driver that work with any sound card (they are very easy to install):

ASIO4ALL might work but it's not recommended or supported by Sonoma. There are others out there who have it working fine though.
Cheers!

Why would you want to monitor through the laptop's tiny, tinny-sounding speakers? I'm also not aware of any laptop that comes with an internal asio compatible soundcard. If you have the Pod, then it's your soundcard while using RiffWorks.

Just bring along your headphones or plug external speakers into the Pod and you'll be set to go.

Welcome aboard!
