I am struggling with an issue and cannot figure it out. As I play my guitar through Amplitube and RW, the sound drops briefly, as if the computer is figuring something out. This also happens when playing back something that I've recorded. I know it's not just RW because a similar thing happens in Reason while playing. It's got to be a setup issue.

The details:

Desktop
2.1GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Socket AM2 processor
Biostar K8M800 Micro Socket motherboard
Windows XP Home SP2
2 G RAM
C: 10k RPM 150 G Raptor SATA
D: 7200 RPM 500G SATA, Partitioned to include a 30G space at the front (labeled X Drive) to serve as my Virtual Memory
Mbox 2
All programs are loaded on the C using roughly 18G of the 150G
I have optimized for System cache and background services
I have set RW to use the X drive for temp files
There is nothing on the D as this is a brand new machine
RW Standard and Amplitube 2.0
Reason Adapted
Protools LE and Battery 3 are loaded and that's about it. This machine is specifically for music.

I would appreciate any help. Please let me know if there is useful setup info that I have left out. Thanks in advance.

Hi Gofast,

I'm seeing if I can get an engineer to pipe in on this one. If you mix a song down to wave or ogg, can you hear drop outs in those as well?

Try Fiddling with your ASIO latency settings / buffer size.

Yes, I'd definitely like to know your ASIO buffer size settings. If they are too low, it will have more to do with potential drop outs than anything. 256 works well and provides reasonable latency. Based on the specs, your machine should be able to do 128 without dropouts, but there could be a background process somewhere thwarting your efforts.

cheers,

Just installed RWS and plugged a POD X3 live into computer Windows XP. Recorded some tracks and Playback audio will cut out, Meters on RW are bouncing, but no sound. Have to reboot everything and sound will play for a while, but cuts out....... Headphones are plugged into the POD ....I can still hear my live guitar in headphones, but nothing from RW........ Any clues would be appreciated

Hey veeezzou, sounds like a usb lead problem to me. Click the audio button at the bottom right corner of RiffWorks when it does it again and see if your pod has disappeared from the asio box that pops up top left. If it has - exit from RW, unplug and re-plug the usb lead (doesn't matter which end) then restart RW, check audio button again. If Pod has re-appeared you're up and runnin'. If it keeps doing it try plugging into a different usb port and maybe get another usb cable as well.

Hope this sorts it for you mate.

G'day UB,

Thanks......
Tried all of those, to no avail. The audio from RW simply dies out, but I still have audio from my live guitar. I reset PODX3 Live and RWS, have audio for a while and poof, gone, gonzo, nada.............PODX3 Live is always present in the Asio box

PS. I'm ex Lauderdale livin in OZ.......
