I'm trying to find an interface that works well with riffworks, I was using JamLab for awhile, but i wanted to be able to mic off my amp/cab, and have midi control to use my yamaha keyboard for Sample Moog. I also wanted to use my Digitech GNX1 for midi contol of stomboxes/ wah/volume inside amplitube. So i decided Id buy Lexicons Omega, that was a bad idea, i have had nothing but trouble with it. Latency is horrible and I cant even get it to run in Riffworks. So i need to find something that has all those capabilities but plays well with RIFFWORKS, any ideas would be very helpfull

I myself use a GuitarPort from Line 6. The only other USB interface that I know others here use and have good luck with is the StealthPlug.

Line 6 Toneport ux2 and PodXT Live are excellent too. Research the Sonoma homepage and you'll find a list of the supported devices. I think the list is part of the manual. Good luck mate.

There a ton of USB interfaces out there but for youe money the Line6 Toneports are your best bet. They are the only USB devices that come loaded with the legendary Line6 amp and cab models. Not to mention some really cool effects. If you don't plan on doing a lot of vocals you can get away with the GuitarPort.

I have had great results using Line6 (GuitarPort and POD) with RW......however, because of you metioning MIDI and just to clear a bit up, see below.

USB interfaces for RW are of an audio nature; not a MIDI nature. There is no MIDI clock, program changes etc. at this time within RW itself. (Nor are there any MIDI tracks.......all tracks (called Layers) are audio). (NOTE: Thru the use of ReWire in RW and with another MIDI program that supported ReWire, it could be achieved that way).
If you were using the POD xtLive for the audio interface you could use the POD for MIDI control of other MIDI devices.

I should be able to control my amplitube stomp boxes/wah/volume with my GNX1 via MIDI I/O control right?

RIFFWORKS---> AMPLITUBE ----> DIGITECH GNX1--/
/ l
l---------------------------------------l

Run RIFFWORKS start Amplitube inside RW, then from inside Amplitube, click midi control tab and setup the GNX1

I need the mic inputs to record straight of the amp/cab,and acoustic guitar.
no singing (i suck)
MIDI mainly for control of AMPLITUBE and other IK multimedia programs i have
I was looking this morning at the MBox 2 for 449.99 but since i bought the Lexicon Omega and now samash wont take it back (now I have a 200$ paper weight thats a horrble interface) im kinda of hesitant on weather the MBox 2 will work any better

You really would be better off with the Line 6 UX2, sounds best and costs less. Also, there is virtually none of the latency associated with amplitube.

I use seperate interfaces as far as audio and MIDI control go. PODxtLive for audio and MOTU Fastlane for MIDI. The MOTU is basically to convert the MIDI plugs to USB. (I just use MIDI for keyboard controllers and synth stuff).
As long as Ampitude has a set up for MIDI control it should work. I am not familar with that.

Rohr I'm looking and looking and don't see a "midi control" tab in Amplitube. I've seen MIDI control of parameters in some DAW programs but I don't think such a thing exists here (to use an external controller with the VST's inside RiffWorks).

MIDI control for amplitube 2 live inside riffworks is in the upper left hand corner across from presets save delete, my Jimi Hendrix amplitube doesnt have the midi control option which really saddens me but i deal with it, my amplitube ampeg bass also has the midi control

That's upsetting that Sam Ash won't take it back. I'm sorry about that.

I just looked on the Lexicon website, and it looks like they have a fairly new driver that you may not have gotten in the box.

http://www.lexiconpro.com/ProductDownloads.aspx?ProductID=6&Type=0

When we tested the Lexicon Omega, it was with an older driver. I should have thought to see if they had any updated drivers when we first spoke over email.

Try those out and see if you have any improvements with RiffWorks functionality.

Rohr thanks for pointing that out! I'm using the full version and it doesn't have that tab but sure enough, the Live 2 version does!

Unfortunately...what it will let you control is pretty limited, and more unfortunately it doesn't recognize my controller in RiffWorks (I expect it wouldn't as RW is the host and it doesn't have MIDI). I'm not sure why it's there, I couldn't assign to it in Tracktion either.

you should be able to control everything that is allowed to be controlled in amplitube right?, what controller are you using? is there something you had to do to get the standard amplitube 2 program (not live 2) to show up in effects, ive got everything to show up, Sample Moog, Sample Tank, Amplitube 2 Live, Jimi Hendrix Amplitube, T racks, Amplitube Ampeg

RiffWorks doesn't have MIDI, and these controls you're looking to use are MIDI-based. The VST's show up in that "AMP" list in the effects, but you have no MIDI link to them to control parameters...you have to do it all the parameters by mouse.

Amplitube 2 shows up right above A2Live in my list, I didn't do anything special to get it there other than install it. The standalone program itself does not show up there, only the VST plug in.

FWIW I have an M-Audio O2 controller, but it doesn't do anything for me in RiffWorks.

Now that this discussion has moved into a bit of conrol specific,
can anybody let me know some keyboard shortcuts.

i know the 2 basic ones play and record but perhaps i need a few more like create new riff , mute unmute , save etc. as i control rw via my custom footcontroller (joypad rewired as a controller box) leaving my hands free for other things.

As for the Midi Control i don't think that would be possible with VST as VST parameters are controlled by HOST (RW in this case and with no native midi input, midi control might not work) however there are few vst shells out there that can be loaded as a vst plugin and can load other vst plugins and use a dedicated midi out/midi in from plugin itself independent of the host).
I Am A Man of Few Words Ironically Understandable by the Select Few, hence more often than not I have to Come out of my Manhood to do the obvious. Now Ain't it a cruel world?
