Hi

I downloaded the Demo version to check whether I could use Riffworks with my TonePort GX and Gearbox.

It installed fine, but when I try to run it I get an "unhandled exception error".

It then creates a minidump file and asks me to attach it to and email and submit it. However it does not give an email address to subit it to. Can anyone help?

Thanks, Scott.

I sent a minidump file to that address yesterday, so I guess I got that bit right.

Nice to know you.

Anyone else running Vista and had problems with the demo?

Coupla things I've downloaded recently won't run in demo, but full version claims to be Vista ready...

I won't bur Riffworks until the Demo works with Vista

LJ,

RiffWorks works perfectly with Vista. My primary work station is running Vista and I regularly use it to run RiffWorks. Something else is going on in your case, and I don't think it's OS related.

Are you running any security or anti-virus software? If so, try temporarily disabling it before you start up RiffWorks demo. I'd appreciate that.

Thanks for the comments, guys. I tried turning off all antivirus and antispyware products, but it did not help: still getting the unhandled exception.

One interesting thing...

If I answer "YES" to the offer to create a minidump file, that's what happens: a minidump file is created...however

If I answer "NO" to the offer of creating a minidump file, I get ANOTHER unhandled exception error and another offer to create a minidump file.

On the assumption that this one might be different I'll send the next one to Randy and see what he can come up with.

Right: I have tried the following...

Re downloaded and installed Riffworks Demo

Running installation and application as administrator

Running application in compatibility mode (Windows XP)

Disabling antivirus and antispyware

Running with and without UAC (User account control).

No joy...

Anyone else got any ideas for things I could try?

Getting desperate!

Hold the front page!

I eventually reinstalled Vista, now it all works!

Thanks for all your help and suggestions, guys. Seems that Vista had a problem with an audio driver being incorrectly configured. It thought my sound device had been incorrectly detected or sumthin'....

Any how, it all works now, except that changing the drum pattern parameters seems to only affect the tempo. Changing the time signature has absolutely no effect whatsoever...

Still, I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

Thanks again

Glad to hear that it was a fluke! You had me worried there for a bit. :)

Thanks for the status update! Much appreciated.

I have the solution to every single Vista-related problem: re-install Windows XP. :P

Really? I haven't had any problems on my R60 Lenovo ThinkPad. Every piece of software I've installed has worked (including Reason and RiffWorks of course). The only thing I don't care for is the organization of some of the network menus. My gaming/personal computer still runs XP and I don't think it's any better. I'm good about turning off extra unneeded features, so Vista runs pretty lean on my machine (Oh yeah, I've got rhymes!).

In the end, I don't think there's a lot of value in upgrading if you're already using XP, but it's not an OS to be scared of at this point. Drivers are abundant, it's stable and they give you the ability to trim the fat so it has a pretty small resource footprint.

What are your complaints?
