I gotta say I believe the fault was not with Vista per se, but with the SP1 update I was in too much of a hurry to install.

Some things which did not work before the update worked fine afterwards, but I'd rather have a working Riffworks and a non-working USB hub...

Seriously, though, I have been running Vista since RC1 and have had some problems with it, but only a few, fewer than I had as an early adopter of XP.

The only reason I have issues still are:

1. It can only use 2Gb of memory, although it can see more.

2. My old digital camera does not have a working driver.

apart from that, everything works, and more quickly than XP as well...

My gripes with Vista are legion. First is the price (but then, this is true of all MS operating systems). Then there's all the different versions - Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, Ultimate - not to mention the choice between 32-bit and 64-bit for each of those. I would think that Business and Enterprise would have just about the same functionality and cater to the same market, why 2 separate versions?

As far as the horsepower required to run Vista - well unless you bought your computer just this year, I wouldn't advise trying to run Vista. OEM systems get faster, and Microsoft's response is always to introduce a new operating system that will bring even the most up-to-date computer to it's knees. Plus I think it's funny how Intel will introduce a new chip just weeks after a new Microsoft OS arrives on the market. "Psst, we got a new chip that'll make yer Vista run like it's supposed to now". Tell me Intel and Microsoft aren't in bed together on that.

I just don't see any significant improvements over Windows XP, which in my opinion is Microsoft's best effort to date.

Pooterpatty, all your points are valid.

I did not have to pay for this copy of Vista myself, but in order to get the best out of it you need to spend money on a decent graphics card, assuming you don't have one already.

The only reason I use an MS operating system at all is for compatibility with programs like Gearbox, Riffworks and Cakewalk Guitar Tracks.

All my other work I do in Linux.

I downloaded the Demo version to check whether I could use Riffworks with my TonePort GX and Gearbox.

It installed fine, but when I try to run it I get an "unhandled exception error".

It then creates a minidump file and asks me to attach it to and email and submit it. However it does not give an email address to subit it to. Can anyone help?

Hi LJ

If you are plugged into a network, try uplugging your cable and start RW. Does it start OK?
