I have just bought the Line6 Guitarport/Rifftracker package and installed the Gearbox and Riffworks software. Gearbox works fine but Riffworks hangs when I start it up. I have uninstalled it twice and reinstalled it but still it hangs and can only be stopped using Windows Task Manager. I also tried upgrading the version. Again the installation appeared to go ok but when I tried to run the application nothing appeared to happen. When I tried to start it again it gave an error message that Riffworks was already running. Any help would be useful. (I am running under XP home edition with SP2).

This same thing is happened to me as well. I've wasted the last 5 hours of my life trying to get this app to work. GearBox works fine, and I really like it. The pictures on the box of all the cool riffWorks features are really frustrating me as I can't play with any of them.

Okay, I installed riffWorks v1.10 from this site:

So far it's running fine. So I guess the problem is with RW 2.5., which is what I paid for.

Have you used the Line 6 Monkey to check that all your drivers and software versions are current?
Cheers!

Last night, when I originally installed everything, I went to Line 6 Monkey and downloaded all the updates including the latest drivers (from 3.0.0.4 to 3.3.3.6). Everything downloaded fine, but I still could not see the RiffWorks app after opening it. After installing v1.10 of RiffWorks it started to make loud random hissing sounds and the sound quality just wasn't as good as v2.5 so I uninstalled v1.10 and reinstalled everything from scratch, which meant I had to reinstall the latest drivers. After downloading the 3.3.3.6 and installing and then going back to line 6 monkey, the monkey says that 3.0.0.4 is still installed. I've gone through the download/installation process twice and rebooted my computer. It still not recognizing 3.3.3.6. And I still am not seeing RiffWorks after opening it.

let me clarify...gearBox was making loud hissing sounds when I installed v1.10 of riffWorks (the installation was for a previous version of both gearBox and Riffworks). gearBox's sound quality is better with v3.5 and no hiss. v1.10 of riffWorks is the only version that has worked on my laptop.

What rigs are you guys using, hardware-wise?

If you are using XP or Vista, open the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and see if riffworks is actually running once it starts and disappears - it might be running but nothing visible on-screen. Also have you tried running it in compatibility mode? Right click the RW shortcut and select Properties - Compatibility Mode and select, say, Windows 98 or 2000 and try that.

Also, it may have nothing to do with it, but try unplugging your network connection (if you have one) before launching RW and see if that makes any difference.

Troubleshooting this kind of thing is a process and takes time, but there is usually a reason why it doesn't work. I'm not part of Sonoma and I'm not making excuses; I am a computer repair guy that sees lots of 'this-shouldn't-happen-but-it-does' sh*t in my line of work.

Version 1 of RiffWorks/RiffTracker was made to run on GuitarPort software ..............NOT GearBox...........so it may not run. GuitarPort with RiffWorks ran on the OLD GuitarPort 2.5 software version before it was integrated into GearBox, so running the Monkey and upgrading to GearBox will just cause problems.............

I am running the current Line6 version of Riffworks with the current version of Gearbox on a Guitarport and everthing works fine. I am running Win XP on my Dell XPS400 with 1GB RAM. Guitarport does tend to hang up during recording sometimes by getting stuck in some kind of loop and I have to disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to stop it sometimes. Other than that I have not problems.
