hey guys. I currently use gearbox, and wanted to know what Amplitube does that gearbox doesn't, which is better, is it worth having both, etc. thanks!

Do you mean the version of 'Amplitube' that comes with RW 'Standard', or the full-blown version?
Cheers!

I just mean in general. I first had guitar port/rifftracker, then moved up to gearbox/riffworks (line 6). I have tons of tones w/gearbox (plus some gold add ons), but am fishing for basic info on amplitube to see what it offers. thanks!

the version of Amplitube that comes with RW standard only gives you 3 amp models to choose from, not much variety there. Plus in my experience there seems to be a lot of latency when using RW and Amplitube together. My vote is still with GearBox - more tones, better interface, and no latency.

I only use the Amplitube 2 Live version that comes with RWS along with GearBox (plus all the model packs).
Sometimes I find the GearBox models just too heavily ridden with fx to get a 'natural' sound and there are just so many to choose from, it's difficult to pick one.
In saying that, I do seem to make it my 'go to' software - especially as it has bass, keyboard and vocal settings. I haven't found latency issues to be too bad for either package.
I like having the two packages because they do sound different from each other and that gives recordings a bit more depth if used together but panned to different channels.
Cheers!

I just started using geabox and have to say I agree with Scott in having better experience of getting more "natural" sounds with amplitube - but I just started creating my own tones more than using the pre sets so maybe I'll be able to tweak some of those.

I'm a big fan of the "full" Amplitube 2 and switched away the PODxt/Gearbox tones, I just like the sound better. It does introduce the challenges of more CPU intensity and potential latency but I have enough horsepower that neither is an issue for me.

Personally I think you can get great tone out of either, and am still amazed we have such things to play with these days! :)

Back in the old days, we used to have to put a mic in front of our cabs, and heaven forbid someone comes along and bumps the mic once you get the placement "just right".

Maybe I need to play with Amplitube a little more. Only messed with it for about an hour after crossgrading to RWS. I get the feeling though that my computer just doesn't have enough balls.

Run the 'Autoinstaller' inside the 'zip' file. Once installed, you need to register Amplitube with the serial # via IK Multimedia.
Cheers!

I have Amplitube that came with RW standard, Amplitube Live, Ampeg SVX, Guitarport, and Gearbox. As you all know by now I like hard drivin crunchy type music. I cannot achieve these sounds using any of the Amplitube stuff, at least not to my liking. Also there is so much latency when using the Amplitube stuff verses the GP and GB stuff.

Breakdown for me...

Amplitube will give you more natural way more cleaner type sound that GP and GB ever will plus sounds like a real tube amp. To me it's a more 70's type of rock sound such as Hendrix and such.

Ampeg SVX: Awesome bass sounds but with it comes the latency problem. Just fiddle with the ASIO control panel and you can get the latency to go away (this goes for both the Amplitube 2/ Live and Ampeg SVX).

GP and GB will give you more crunch than you'll ever need plus you get bass and vocal setting that are cool to have without changing over from one to the other.

Really depends on the sound your looking for whatever project your doing. If your looking for a clean tone, go Amplitube, if you want better crunch guitar go GP or GB. Again it really depends on you though you just have to open her up and try them both out.

See my post on the comparison of both Amplitube and Gearbox here> http://www.sonomawireworks.com/riffcaster/post.php?/7115

Hey Mudd .....give Guitar Rig 1, 2, or 3 a try.....nice sounds.......crunchy too.....you can daisy chain multiple amps ......so you can mos def find a crunch in there somewhere.
But I too use gearbox as my go to app ....for vox, bass (Bass X), and guitars.
Ampeg SVX and GRig 2 are awesome for bass tones...in fact I haven't used them for a while.....hmmm.................GB is just way too easy...........

Where can I check out Guitar Rig at?

To address the poster above, I have the Jimi Hendrix Amplitube too and it sounds good if your looking for his type of sound.
