Sorry, I know this is about another product, but I'm trying to take a song produced in RW and add a bass line across all riffs in Audacity.

But ... I can't get any sound out of Audacity. I've got RW and GP open, I've got my bass sound going fine in those programs, but when I switch to Audacity, I don't hear anything or see any levels.

I tried every input source but it never picked up my stuff.

Ideas?

Thanks,
Steve

I figured out how to do it (Edit/Preferences/Select GP in recording area), but it pops all the time. Not sure why.

Doesn't look like I'll be using that program much.

First, I'm not good at all the technical specs, but I think my sample rate is that same as a CD wav file - 44100 or whatever.

My bass is clear in guitar port, but when I record, it snaps, crackles, and pops.

Thanks!

Why not just mix your song to one riff in RW and then add your bass as another riff. You can actually use multiple riffs if you dont want to play all the way through the song. You should use Reason if possible ($500.00 though) It works great and has every sound you could ever want. Good luck!

Well, it's a long story, but I actually brought the song out into Audacity to add some single crash cymbals. I would have to bring the final WAV file back into RW.

Thanks, though.

thats no problem, run from your h.phones out on your computer to the front side of gtr.port hardware into r.w with "no amp" preset to get a clean signal. this way you can record anything you can hear in to riffworks..

Very cool. I didn't know about that.

But what kind of cord would I need? I didn't know they sell headphone-to-1/4 inch!

Thanks,
Steve

You can buy mini-jack to 1/4" adaptors. I've got one for my Sennheiser headphones. If you can get a lead with mini-jacks on one or both ends and an adaptor too, you should be set!
Cheers!

Make sure you get a stereo adapter. You can also use the propellerhead program called "recycle" to convert any audio file to REX format. Then you can adjust pitch, tempo etc. and play the file in RW with the Rex Player.

Kind of an afterthought on the bass line, but I would bet if you put the bass into RW (or any other changes to the RW except moving riffs around), mixed it to WAV again and imported the song back into your Audacity File (the one with the crash in the right spot) it would line right back up.

How do you separate the tracks in Audacity after you mixed your song into a WAV file in Riffworks?

If you mix down a whole song to WAV you can not separate the tracks. You can solo the tracks and individually mix each instrument to WAV one at a time, and then they could be imported separately into Audacity or another DAW for re mixing.
