Greetings to you all. Hope to collaborate sometime when I've finally figured out how to do the wretched drums properly, get smooth transitions between riffs and ooohh...just about everything else !!

Oh dear! Oh dearie, dearie dear!! Someone will need to explain the nuances of informal nomenclature to our snowboarding friend. If our newest member hails from a certain geographical area of the UK, the only kiss Bob's going to get for his advances is of the 'Glesga' variety!!

Stitch that, byraway!!
Cheers!

Is a smertass the same as a smartarse with an American nuance of informal nomenclature about the spelling or is it something completely different, in a colloquialistic sorta way ?

SMERTASS; Slang for a person who calls attention to spelling errors in blogs/posts on the internet....

I looked it up.

Oh yeah, I'm well and truly rebuked, I'll be miserable and morose as well and you won't hear another peep outta me now

Won't catch me wearing a wig Scotty, might not go with my incontinence knickers, I'd feel a bit of a jark ;)

Just kidding Bill. Certainly didn't mean to rebuke anyone. I noticed the mis-spelling just a few hours before you posted, and already knew what I was going to say if anyone mentioned it.....

But then again, you live in the south now. I don't know the whole story, but do know that you moved from the UK, and can now see that you may have been asking a genuine question!

I was born in Florida (Flevoland for you Myspace users), but up in the panhandle area, which is redneck country, but have also lived in Georgia and New Orleans. Each has their own way to pronounce smartass.

A Smart-I-Ess is what you get in Florida redneck speak. ie
"Ahm uh smart-I-ess hoo lee-ivs in flor-duh.
Notice that smartass is now a three syllable word, while florida is now only two.

Georgia is similar, with a less pronounced R and less separation between the last two syllables.
"Well now that jawja bahwee is nuttin butta peeyuah smaht-iass"

New Orleans
"whoowee! shot dat smaht trap sahn ineachyo muffalotta!"

Now a question about the UK. Is "cockney" the same as "redneck" over here in the US? Have always wondered that. I've heard people refer to a "cockney accent" which seems a bit sharper.
