So I bought Riffworks Standard and have not installed it yet. I just read a post on here that there are 2 versions of this? One for Line 6 and one not? I feel like an idiot now. I bought mine at Musicians Friend and there were no choices...that I saw at least.
Anyway,I normally run my POD X3(bean,not live) thru the PC into MIXCRAFT 3 but RIFFWORKS intrigued me also so I bought it. I was going to ask if I can just run my POD into RIFFWORKS but I guess thats out, huh? So does that mean I have to spend another $100 for a Stealth Plug? Moneys not the issue , I just didnt know there are 2 versions. So I need to buy this Stealth plug then? And will it come with software that includes ASIO,if not I think the ASIO driver can be downloaded. Anyone shed some light for me? Thanks.

Welcome.

Riffworks Standard is the non Line 6 stand alone version. The Line 6 version requires you to have a Line 6 device. The Standard version frees you from Line 6.

You can still use X3 with the standard version.

Hope that helps. If not, one of the experts will be along soon and wow you with their brilliance.

Thanks. I really wish I knew there were 2 different ones before I ordered it.I thought RIFFWORKS was just the one.....but if I can use the POD X3 with this using my USB without having to buy a Stealth, that would really make me happy. Thanks and looking forward to more replies.

Good call! RW Standard is definitely the best choice! Like Bluesydude says, the Line 6 version ties you totally and exclusively to Line 6 devices like PODs, TonePorts and GuitarPorts. The 'Standard' version lets you use any compatible ASIO device including your Line 6 stuff.
'Standard' also comes with Amplitube and a few more Instant Drummers.
Many people on the forums have crossgraded from the Line6 version to Standard.
Your X3 should work OK with Standard too. There was some talk of the Line6 version having driver issues, so there's another 'plus' point.
Cheers!

So I can just go USB to PC and open up RIFFWORKS and pretty much jam away or do I still need to download an ASIO driver? I had to download an ASIO driver to run my BFD drum software on my last PC.

Use the Line 6 Monkey to check that all the drivers and software versions are current. You will need to have the ASIO driver for your X3 installed so that RW can use it.
Cheers!

I just reinstalled Monkey last night and all X3 drivers are up to date so that should be good.

Then welcome to the club - we hope to hear your creations on Riffcaster soon! Be careful though, Riffworks is so easy to use and so powerful that it becomes addictive very quickly. So addictive in fact that those of us who use it are called "Riff Junkies".

The Line 6 edition does not work with the X3 yet anyway. Line 6 have not added the ability to use add ons like model packs yet and may not. So the Standard version is the only one that works with the X3.

And make sure you update the X3 to the current firmware version, there was a critical update that fixes bugs that was released a while back.

Thanks for all the replies.I will be installing it in my new PC in the next day or so. Yes,I updated my Firmware already as well. I do LOTS of home recording,my style is mostly Metal. As soon as I get a handle on this I will post up.
I can just download an ASIO driver off the net and use that,is that correct?

To my understanding, once you've done the firmware as Slinger says, download and install the Line 6 monkey, plug your pod into usb, run Monkey and it will see the pod and all the necessary downloads and updates run through it. (Asio included)

Hope this helps mate, good luck and welcome.
