Question #1

I'm trying to do some demo songs and I can't seem to figure out how to make a complete songs with RW. What I want to do is add different riffs at different spots on the song time line. How would I do that? I tried to do it once with Open file and drag and it didn't seem to work.

Question #2

How do I convert to MP3 format file?

Program is cool. If I can just figure it out I will be recording some cool stuff.

Hi,

My first stop would be to youtube maybe. Do a search for riffworks and see what comes up. Then maybe you can see some actual clicking and dragging.

First, you create a riff. Then, you click on that riff, hold the mouse button down, and drag the riff up into the song bar.

Hope this helps. But if not, I'm sure someone will be pointing you to a screenshot of it soon.

RW isn't a linear recording package like Cubase or Logic. It breaks songs down in to 'riffs' - which is like the make-up of a lot of songs. For example, intro, verse1, chorus, verse2, bridge, chorus, chorus etc.
In a song like this, the music for verse1 will be the same as verse2 so why record it twice? You record the riff (4 or 8 bars of music - variable by the user) once and duplicate it. Same for the chorus.
So, after recording intro, verse and chorus, you assemble each riff on the songline to put the jigsaw together.
To create riffs, you click the 'Create' button, add your Instant Drummer, record your instrument/vocals.

As for convertion, RW doesn't convert to .mp3 format. You need a third party audio converter like "Audacity" - free to download and does .mp3 files as long as you also download the LAME add-on as well.
Cheers!
Scott

I got one more question. When I try to record more than one riff I can't record the second riffs.

Example: Riff1/Riff2

I can't seem to be able to record riffs2. Or even see the color coded bars.

How would I be able to use saved riifs together for a song?

When your current riff is showing a black square to the left of it main colour (If it's greyed out just click on it) you then go to the top left of the RW screen and click "duplicate".... and an identical second riff will appear in the riff box. If you click "create"..... a completely new blank riff will appear in the riff box.
Once you have as many riffs as you want, even if it's only one, just drag and drop them into the songline which is shown as a white strip at the top of the page. You can then play along the song line using the top triangular play button.

I hope this helps :)
