I was going to say earlier, Guitarport has some nice perks with all the online stuff.. A UX1 or UX2 (or X8) will offer ability to record mics easily,

Silver package is about tones, not so much about options. Its a basic toneport with some addtional amp models. Back in April when the 100off coupon was floating about, I almost jumped on this but I opted for a gold edition instead.

Thats what I figured it was all about. I have the basic GP interface so this wouldn't be any upgrade for me.

Haha, seriously Muddy, if you want a lot of gizmo for your money Toneport UX2 or Pod XT Live is the way to go for me. They may even be phasing these out because of the Pod XT3. Checkout the spec on these 3 bits of kit and you'll see what I mean.

Muddhole are you gonna sing? and use a mic? If so I would go with the UX2 Thats what I use and works great. the UX1 is pretty much the same as GP. as far as the Bundles I believe those bundles alow you to use the tones in VST format so that would be cool. i really want to upgrade mine for use like that but a lil tight on the pocketbook lately

Just be aware that if you run Vista you might have to plug and unplug the unit all the time to reset the sound driver, which can be annoying.

I tell ya, I haven't yet gone two or three days without hearing something bad about Vista. I'm certainly not ready to make the jump. But then again, I didn't ditch 98se until early 2005 so....

I'd say go with the ux1 or ux2 if you're gonna sing, the podxt live if you're gonna shred. Or, just buy both of em and you're fully covered. The xtlive is packed with models and effects.

But I didn't realize that there was a difference between the ux1 and ux2 aside from the two inputs instead of one, and the VU meters. They both have balanced inputs, and I THOUGHT they both had the same package of modelers and preamps, etc. That's what I thought at least. If I was wrong, damn myself for buying the ux1, because the ux2 wasn't much more money.

The xtlive is awesome. I'd go and get the new version, but again, it's new, and I've heard some things. Knowing what the support is like at L6, I'm still a little too gunshy to buy. It sure looks sexy though! And the dual amp modeling thing sounds terrific. Now if they'll just give us the ability in gearbox to either chain a couple of effects pedals together, or separate the distortions from the rest of the "effects" so that we may use distortion AND an effect.

"I think the problem might have been, that there was a stonehenge monument on stage in danger of being crushed, by a dwarf". "I really think you're making a big thing out of this". "Making a big thing out of it would have been a good idea".

I already sing with just the guitar port I have. I just unplug the guitar and plug in the mic.

Yeah I intitally wanted a UX2, but didn't have the funds at the time. Maybe sometime in the near future. I use to have a POD XT LIVE but sold it to get something else.

I think is the hardware manufacturers who are not keeping up with the play. I have been using Vista from the day the earliest beta verison was released, which was years ago. If Line 6 - who probably has more access to Microsoft code than I'll ever have - cannot get their backsides into gear and develop a device driver that works in that time they deserve the bad press. The thing is, no-one blames the hardware guy; they blame Microsoft for making a crap system. That's like blaming Henry Ford for global warming.

The first blue screen I have ever seen on a Vista machine (and remember I am a computer tech who looks at faulting machines all day long) was 5 minutes after I installed a Toneport UX2 (which was manufactured long after Vista came out) and Gearbox on my machine.

As long as your hardware is up to date Vista is fine, though if people want to use older hardware (scanners, printers etc.) and don't want to ditch them just yet then I point them at XP, which in my opinion is still the best operating system. I use Vista because it is my job to know it inside out, but I much prefer XP for maximum compatibility.

I didn't realise there was a difference between the UX1 and 2 either, software wise; I was going to go for the smaller model but managed to get a good deal on a used UX2 - glad I went for it now (aside from the constant uplugging to get Riffworks to 'see' the driver).
