I will try to explain as clear as possible. I have 2 killer riffs I recorded both using rex player drums. Both different beats and at different time signatures. When I drag both of them up to the song bar and play them it dosen't transition from the first to the second riff smoothly. The drums dont match up as nice as I would like between the two. They sound great when played seperatly. What tricks would you use to get them to work together? Maybe I need more drummers I dont have many yet I am still new at this and allready rather addicted.

that's a tough one. an outside program might do it, i don't use them tho, i have no idea how.
but what i would try is a 1,2 or 3 bar trans fill, or 3 bar build, sometimes an ending cymbal smash will set it up for the next change especally if you throw in a guitar over the fill to lead into the next riff. hope this helps.

good luck!

If the drums don't mesh together I don't think there is much you can do except pick different drums. Have you visited the free rex drums thread?

I agree on attempting a transistion fill. I try to think of a drum lick or a break that would work and try to find a short fill which would work.

export the song to a .wav or .ogg file and then listen. sometimes the transitions aren't smooth in RiffWorks on the timeline. when you export the file it might take care of it. let us know...

After I have tracked the main parts and I am attempting a rough mix....I fiddle with transitions from riff to riff. Some drummers are more versatile than others and allow more flexibility in that regard. Sometimes it is a simple as needed cymbal shot to fill the void.

If the ID I am using does not work out I have been known to use Reason to add the odd shot here and there to make it as seamless as possible.

Ok I figured it out I added a very short drum part between the two riffs now it sounds seamless. It took some time to find the one that fits but it wasn't to bad. This is the greatest recording software I'v seen I can actually figure things out before I get mad and give up. The best part is that it's fun. I wish I had it years ago. Thanks for the help again I'm sure I will have a few more questions later.
