I can't seem to be able to convert files to MP3.

I have been saving the songs and mixing it to the "broadband e-mail file" which I think is an "egg" file. I have a the LAME MP3 converter but can't seem to convert the files.

Does anyone have a suggestion of another free MP3 converter I can use that might be easier to convert files on? Or any suggestions at all?

One file format that Riffworks outputs to is OGG (Ogg Vorbis), which is what you're referring to.

Check out a program called Audacity (it's free). In addition to converting OGG to MP3, it's a pretty good mixing tool for your Riffworks creations. Hope this helps.

That's what I have. Can you run me threw the MP3 convert steps. Just so I can make sure I'm using the converter right?

Thanks,

Dank,

You have to have downloaded the LAME encoder from the Sourceforge site and installed it.

I normally save the RiffWorks file out by mixing it down to a .wav file or a .ogg file. Then right click on the file icon wherever you saved it to and click on the 'Open with ...' option. Browse to the Audacity software and OK everything. This will install the audio file in to Audacity. You'll see the wave form editor displaying your audio signal (dark blue wave forms with a midtoned blue set running along the middle, both against a lighter background).
You then have to click in the grey panel to the left showing the bitrate and stereo/mono signal, volume and balance faders. This turns the light background behind the wave forms a darker colour. You are effectively turning the window focus to the song by doing this. You can then click, "File" and choose the "Export as mp3" option and save it out to somewhere on your computer / pendrive etc.

I've been recommending Audacity for years and as a piece of free software, you can't really get much better.
Cheers!
Scott

Dank -
just another application that you may want to know about;
FreeRIP Version 3
http://www.mgshareware.com/
a Windows application that can convert your audio CDs to audio files (MP3, WMA, WAV, Ogg Vorbis or FLAC formats supported). It also is an audio file converter that can convert from a format to another. Now totally renewed version 3 is available for free download. With FreeRIP converting your audio CD collection to digital encoded audio files is a matter of minutes.

If you have the LAME encoder, then you can also use CDex for encoding MP3s. It's lighter weight than audacity, which could be good if you don't plan on using Audacity's other features. It's also great for ripping your audio CDs to MP3. I don't think it knows how to handle .ogg files, but you should be using .wav anyways as it's lossless. Why convert a compressed .ogg to a compressed .mp3 when you don't have to? :)

Yeah if you try and mix those "egg" files they usually come out scrambled.
What you really meant to say was ogg files.

I use Advanced MP3/WMA editor. It does practically everything.

Another option would be to RiffCast your song, then go to your song's page on RiffWorld.com. There you'll find a handy MP3 download link of your tune.
