Hi All,

I d loaded audacity and lamemp3 and opened a small 5 mg file
converted it to mp3, without a problem

I tried the next file 43mg, and and other at 32 mg, Audacity crashes and
asked to send report to micro soft, bummer

I open a small test file again only 3 mg and no problems.

Is anyone having crash issues like that?

My p.c. is:
XP Pro
Emu 1212m sound card
Nvidia Quadro fx 1500
core 2 Quan
4 gig ram
10,000 rpm raptor hard drive

I dont see an option to get patch fixes
i just installed it today
Audacity Ver. 1.2.6.

Any incite would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
Rick

Try CDex and see if that works, though I've never had a problem with converting large waves to MP3 using Audacity.

Oh, I see what the problem is. Your hard drive is way too slow, and you hardly have any RAM. You better send that piece of junk my way for "testing". :P

lol...( my boss upgrades my home and work P.C.'s every 6 months
to my needs for working at home...part of my salary contract)

Randy i got her working, It wouldn't work for the .rwr and .rws files

After I figured out Riff Works a little better i mixed to wav and ogg and
I got the conversion without any problem

Hey... is there a way to create your own drum beats or modify existing ones or use
a different drum machine. I can't seem to get some beats I need for
some of my original riffs.

I would purchase an upgrade that adds many drum tracks if available
The option to get more drum tracks is quite expensive per track.

i'm a newbie

Thanks
Rick

rwr and rws I believe are exclusive to the Riffwork/Rifflink format. As far as I know, they will not play in other player in that format which is why Riffworks gives the option upon mixdown to convert to other formats be it wav, MP3 or ogg.
It helps with the copyright issue I believe.

There are other files you can use, namely rex, so check these out, they are free.

http://www.sonomawireworks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=4435

and a fellow Riffworks user (Mkolak-Marty) kindly put together a number of very quality drum grooves in Rex. You can find the link to his stuff here:

http://www.sonomawireworks.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=4184

and of course, there are also the instant drummers for which there are discount coupons for in the store you buy in bulk. 10 dollars off for ten, 30 off for twenty.

Occasionally they offer free drummers or discounts on the forum, so it pays to check in about noon everyday and see whats on the board and if there are announced specials which are sometimes on a specific window of time.

Hi Rick

Everyone seems to ask the same question about drums; it is really a matter of using either REX files, a drum machine (which takes some careful button-pushing to get synched right, or buying more ID's (Instant Drummers).

Surf the forum and you will find various links to free REX files (which can be used in lieu of instant drummers) and, if you are lucky, one will be close to what you want for your originals. I agree ID's seem to be inflexible, but some amazing stuff has been done with them, once you get used to how things are done with Riffworks.

I have used an external drum machine, but unless you are very careful, it is very difficult to get the timing perfect - but it can be done. Often people use the drum machine to fill our an existing drum track, whether it be REX or ID, and this works very well. Of course, to record it you must have some way of using a Line In port on your ASIO powered soundcard or device.

Hope this makes sense,

Dave

CharvelGuy

Thanks for the links I cant wait to try the rex files

Davenz,

if I were to go the route of an external or midi drum machine,
could you recommend some for me?

I have midi hook up on my sound card
But, i am purchasing a docking station for it(convenience mostly)

Thanks

Hi Broncos

I have an older Alesis SR16 and a Zoom RhythmTrak drum machine. Both are excellent and have all the required midi bits, though I have no idea how that stuff works. I plug them in via the instrument input on my TonePort and record into RW via Gearbox that way. Sound wise the alesis uses 16 bit samples and can sound dry, but that's great if that is what you want. The zoom sounds 'fuller' and phatter, but the sounds are a little more synthesised.

Timing is the thing and, because I don't 'do' midi and, I believe, RW's midi support is in its infancy, I just hit the start buttons carefully. Interestingly, the zoom I can hit every time spot on, but with the alesis I really have to work to get the timing good enough for a seamless looping riff.

I guess any drum machine, or some fancy keyboard with all the drums in it would do - most stand-alone units work the same way with step record or real-time play/record and different 'kits' and drum types to choose from. Its a matter of which one you think sounds best.

Dave.

Dave

i am not big on the tech side with midi either.
I am going to talk to some friends who seem to have a grip on all this
already, as well.

My one buddy says get Sonar 7 and it comes with a session drummer.
Bigger bucks though..

There is a midi imput on my XTL and I wonder if that will influence what
choices that can be incorporated with the Riffworks software.

My needs are not for professional recordings right away, but quality is a bit of an issue. I want quality when I show other musicians what I'm up to.

For my immediate needs I am looking for something
that I can program to get a specific beat for cover and original riffs.

I am a little green with recording and adding drums for now.
I wonder if I should look for a (cheap?)pc keyboard type of software
until I get a good grip on the whole recording mixing thing?

I would like to lay down a bunch of riffs and then add drums, bass etc.
right now the bare bones Riffworks leaves me jamming to set beats
(witch is fun for now)

I'll keep ya posted, I tend to take some time to get things going
but as my kids get older I get a little more free time each month...lol

Very good incite :)
Thank you

Rick
