I've recorded a demo of my modded Blackheart amp with my X3L. I miced the amp and ran that through my Toneport UX2 and used Riffworks to record.... the little USB foot pedal I built really came in handy to kick off riffworks to record while I was filming :-)

check it out on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebjKIG5-YO8

the foot pedal is basically a simple dual momentary (non latching) switch. I then got an old USB keyboard, and removed it's tiny circuitboard, and soldered the 2 foot switches to the terminals that would be connected when you press the return and the space key on the keyboard. this way I can set it to one shot record, press record with my foot, and then after the one shot press stop with my foot so it doesn't play the next bit... then when I'm ready I can press record again and lay down the next track!..... it's great.

the work on the keyboard insides was a llittle tricky, but anyone who can solder could do it.

I was amazed at the big sound you were able to coax out of a 5-watt amp! Just goes to show you don't need a huge amp to record. If I didn't see it for myself, I'd swear that sound was coming from a Marshall half-stack. At only $149, I might just have a get one of those Blackhearts. I was skeptical about their sound until now.

Cool! especially the footpedal. Now I need another beside it to control my tones...hmm, that gives me an idea. That amp sounds killer.

Cool mods. I might have to break out the soldering iron on a keyboard.

cheers for your comments guys... it is a great rig.

just for kicks.... it was switched to it's triode setting so was only running 3 watts... and what's even better, that sound was only at medium volume for a house... and it still cooks!.... just remember that the tone is coming from my POD X3L... so actually I'd say you should get one of those first, and if you want a good bedroom (and small gig) amp for it, get the blackheart and mod it the way I have :-)
