I've used the rex player in the past. Done a little bit of looking around, seems like I'd need Reason &/or ReCycle to use it or the rewire player more, so I'm looking for info from anyone using those with RW. I'm also interested in checking out EZ Drummer to make loops, but I do not know if all that shtuff is compatible with each other.

How about wav files? I know I can't import them directly into RW (boooooo!). Can Reason or another program make wav loops compatible with RW's rewire/rex functions?

Recycle converts WAV (I guess MP3/OGG/WMA as well) into REX2 files, where you can change/edit tempo and pitch.

Rewiring with Reason and using DR Rex is another option you could consider, plus adding a Midi USB controller (such as Axiom series from M-audio)

More than that, it beats me, I'm not up-to the date with new SW options nowadyas (thanks to Sonoma coz I can use a DAW...)... I'm still a kind of old schooler, conviced that Single coils and Tube Amps are the best combination ever (even that I use Amplitube and Gearbox)

Hope Recycle could supply your needs (It's a bit pricey though...)

Cheers

I use Rewire with Ableton Live Lite 4 to sync up wav files of all sorts with RiffWorks. Too bad Ableton took that away in the newer versions. I have a DOD Drum Loop CD full of waves that kicks ass and you can just assemble your beats in Ableton and away you go.

The easiest thing to do is to after you get your stuff all together in Ableton; mix it to a riff in RW then you don't have to worry about that part again in Ableton, you can move on to something else.

Go and look at Rayzoon Jamsstix 2: http://www.rayzoon.com/.

It is similar to the instanr drummers but it's much better, as you can change many settings - it is essentially a virtual drummer that follows your guitar. It is a VST format and right now I am trying to put it as an Amp VST THROUGH A CHAINER (LOOK AT A RECENT gUITAR rIG TOPIC). If this could be done, than you would be able to record a layer only with drums. The other option would be to mount the VST to a Rewire enabled host/DAW....

jamienelson,

How do you use Live 4 with Riffworks? I have a Live 4 which I got with my M-Audio soundcard, but Riffworks does not see Live 4 Lite as a device in its "Rewire" tab... but Live 4 is "rewired" for sure.

I can get my Jamstix 2 Drummer through Reaper in Rewire mode without any problem and I hear it in Riffworks, but whenever I try to record a layer, I can't hear the drums from rewire, just the guitar. Where am I wrong?

You should be able to open RiffWorks first then open Ableton Live Lite 4. Live lite 4 should switch over to Demo mode and into a Rewire slave. Check the Rewire Tab in RW and make sure there is a check mark in the Ableton box.
