i just bought riffworks. sad to say i am not happy with it at all. i thought it would be the ultimate tool for laying tracks for guitar and to be able to library them so i can use the riffs to arrange songs. like lay down 3 good rhythms and save them into a list called Am rhythm tempo 80pbm for instance and be able to put the pieces together to formulate songs in an easy fashion. maybe im dumb but i have not found an efficient way to do this without hunting through individual projects with my pieces. also 3rd party apps such as gr3 and some other not working natively is a blow for me. it seems to be more difficult fo rme to get things going. i am a current owner of abletone live, nuendo and sonar. i feel it is easier making clips in Live. also using my addictive drums and DFH and bfd is a huge bonus. i felt the instant drummer is terrible compared to other drum modules. bah maybe i am complaining too much for something that costs only 99 bucks but if i am used to the other software i have, is it to far off to say that this software just wont ever cut it for me? imean is there some awesome uniqueness to this software that i am missing from these other sequencers that i am not seeing i particularly wanted this just to put down quick tracks and organise them but i see it doesnt even do that job well. imho

Hello. It's pretty unique alright, I'd say completely different than anything out there. The program is ultra simplified, so you can spend more time playing and less time scrolling through menus and such.

If anything keep it as a tool, it makes for a great jam tool and scetch pad. I don't even write any songs without Riffworks on anymore, but now I can save every single thing I come up with.

Have you tried running Abelton or Sonar as a slave to Riffworks? This can give you some added functionality if needed, but I don't think there is a way to use VSTI drummers yet, unless you have an app that can do it in rewire slave mode.

riffworks standard is the way to go.vst amplitube.maybe just listen to the tunes that have been made with riffworks at riffworld.com.i think this is the best recording software ever.you can use junt to get tempo and layer and dont have to keep putting the guitar down every 10 seconds.use the auto mute when recording then edit stuff afterwards.you can add delay, reverb etc to individual layers.its got the lot rex player, and the best tool is rifflink for online collabs etc.what i love about it is when you get ideas its bish bash bosh and as easy as making instant gravy !!!i will go out on a limb for this software, seriously.ive used ableton and cubase and im not knocking them at all but by the time ive twiddled and piddled around the ideas have gone.with riffworks its instant mash potatoes and cigar smoking to boot.im an average guitar player and ive noticed im getting better through using riffworks as the inspiration keeps flowing,so thats a turn up for the books.advice?stick with it give it a go.also the moderators, staff at sonoma and the banjo players around this joint are always around to help and give good advice.keep rockin moses !!

Matthew, I had a similar point of view quite a while ago when I first got Riffworks to go with my Pod. At the time, I was used to recording in Guitar Tracks and found it a bit of a jump to get out of the sequential recording idea; so I stuck with GT for a long time.

Recently though, I thought I'd take another look at RiffWorks and I think it was a matter of putting my normal way of recording to one side and taking on the riff-based way this software works. Like the others have said, it's a great sketchpad tool and I find I can get ideas down much quicker. I've still got the option to take it into GT if I want and add in a VSTi drummer, however I've found I tend to just stay in RiffWorks after all.
How many guitar players does it take to screw in a light bulb?
13 - one to do it, and twelve to stand around and say, "Phhhwt! I can do that!"

It's more about (for me anyway) using this software for generating ideas, writing songs, jamming and writing online with other great musicians and using the instant drummers for quick, easy access to grooves and song starters. You can get a more pro sound from RiffWorks with certain workarounds or, just learn to use it with other softwares to round out what is missing.

I have to disagree that the instant drummers sound bad though. It's all in how you use them. Try compression and EQ on the background effects and work with the suggested tempos (without straying too far from the original bpm) to get things happening. All the drummers have a sweet spot if you look for it! You can make them sound great with a little effort on your part. Some are better than others (I prefer Submersible Music's Drumcore and Drums on Demand drummers) but they are ALL workable in one way or another. I've previewed drummers in the store that I figured would be useless to me and had no songs in them only to hear someone else use that drummer and be blown away by how good it sounded. It's all in the context of how you use the tools. Definitely learn this tool FIRST before you quit it. Learn about the "info layer" which allows riff automation, play with EQ and compression effects, and ultimately ask questions on the forum when u need help.

And finally, yes, listen to RiffWorld.com to get ideas of what is truly possible. Some people on here are making radio ready music that sounds great :)

It's not just a DAW

It's not just a tool

It's not just a way to record your ideas.

It's a way of life

Of course Matt, you can find issues or that's lacking some "virtues" but:

Customer Service - Support Team

People who participate here

Great community-friendship enviroment

People always willing to help

--------------------------------
Does not have a price you can compare to it.

If I were you, I'd stay with one of your DAWs you already own, and Riffworks.

Riffworld is in a way unique, as well Riffrumble and well, I must say again, the community and Sonoma's team is one of the best "online" experiences you may have.

Take your time, listen to tunes at www.riffworld.com (I'm no good parameter to consider :( ) and give it a real chance, by saying that, do not compare RW to the other softwares, this one has a different aiming which is "as friendly and intuitive as can be"

Hope listening to your tunes soon!

Paul

There is a start of a tutorial here for customizing your RiffWorld Profile. We'll be adding more tips and tricks soon.

You have to use Photobucket or similar to show photos etc on the forum and, I believe, if you are not using one of the designated profile photo boxes :)
