hi Guys

Im getting quite confused here.

Currently i have a toneport ux2:

Guitar -> Gearbox -> Riffworks Record

I want...

USB Keyboard -> SampleTank (or any synth app) -> Riffworks Record

Why is the Gearbox/Riffworks setup unable to play the sound SampleTank is producing back into Riffworks like gearbox does with my guitar. (im sure there is a reason but i want to understand the setup...).

For example - if i bought *another* Toneport Ux1 (i already have a UX2) and used that as a second soundcard would that mean i could send the output of the UX1 (that SampleTank was making) into the UX2 through software means? I am weary of doing the cable thing because of interference and level matching etc.

Thanks in advance - Basically i just want to be able to play live into Riffworks in the same way i do with a guitar and gearbox.

Alex.

I have an internal normal soundcard so i may wire that up from the output to the input of the toneport and see if i can get that to work.

Thanks

Thanks Randy. It does work although SampleTank sounds rubbish through my internal sound card (sounds distorted) and Reason 4 Demo has a rather long delay between pressing the key and the sound coming out of Riffworks...I think i probably need a better soundcard like an audidgy - my internal one seems to be pants :-(

Thanks for all your help guys!

Taking the UX2 Analog Out into the Line1 in - does work but the levels are diffcult to get right, too much and there is a feedback hum. After getting the level ok recording into Riffworks - the output of sampleTank suffered pops and cracks which i've never had from Gearbox with the Instrument in. I am thinking software routing is the best idea - i have downloaded Reaper.....what is is OSX?

I run MIDI Keys into Synty Module via MIDI cable then 1/4 out of module into 1/4 Guitar Port. If onley i could get into my Guitar Port In Stereo then record Stereo tracks in RiffWorks...... WOOOOOO Weeeeeeee We could do some ELP or Some Dream Theater!!!!!!!!!

As ironical as it may sound, i have found a way to record direct from midi via samplers and vst synths etc live or from prerecorded midi clips. Recording live is much easier though.

but you need certain plugins for that especially energyXT and chainer. if anyone has them and wanna try i can explain the process. and if you have full versions of the above then this entire setup takes 2-3 cliks as all you need to do is load a presaved template.

Hi Guys from the forum :-)

Ok this is my equipment
Toneport UX1, Riffworks Standard, Casio Privia PX-300 Keyboard/Controller, Kurzweil Micro Ensemble Piano Module and M-Audio 1 x 1 MIDI Interface.

I have do not have any problems making the guitars, bass and drums from the Riffworks program it works excellent for my home recording. But I need to add pianos, strings and effects for some of my songs. What would be the missing piece that I do not have for recording in Riffworks with a Keyboard? Would I need a heavy sound card for my PC? A Good MIDI Interface? Also I intall Atmosphere VST Software but the program seems to only work with some PC software not Riffworks. If anyone has the answer just let me know. Thanks, francomt75
