I thought this was intuitive.

I sat down and recorded a song all the way through and got 11 riffs but there is only 1 riff on the songlayers area. I put that riff on the build a song line. It doesn't play the complete song.

When I play the song all 11 riffs play at the same time.

What I want to do it put the 11 riffs on the songlayers area so I can put them all in order one after the other and create the song but the manual doesn't tell you how to do that.

The help button so far has been worthless and has nothing that addresses any issue I've had.

I can tell this is going to be sweet when I get it to work but I am having major frustration with it now.

Don't they have a normal manual that will tell you step by step what to do to record a damn song?

Hi scrivner,

Sorry you're having trouble.

There is an online guide that includes How to Create a Song in RiffWorks:
http://www.sonomawireworks.com/guide/index.php/Create_a_Song

There is also a printable manual here:
http://www.sonomawireworks.com/RiffWorksUserManual.pdf

And movies here:

Cheers,
Michelle

What your probalby talking about is, you have 11 layers in 1 riff. Duplicate the first riff 10 more times so you have a total of 11 riffs. Then mute the the layers you do not want to play leaving the one you do want to play. Do this for all your riffs then place them on the song layer in the order you want.

Am I making sense?

Ahh. I got bit by that one. You have to use one riff created for each riff played, and you *have* to know how many bars that riff will be. If (for example) you decide that it's a 12-bar riff, when you are recording, RW scrolls back to the start so that you are, in effect, multi-tracking.

So your 11 riffs have become one multi-tracked riff. You would need to create 11 separate riffs, and record them one-by-one.

When you get used to this idea, it actually may feel good because you can track over and then delete f-ups, and also harmonize over the top of a freshly-laid riff.

We're fast. When I replied, the top poster was the only post. Then Michelle and Mudd were there.

Thanks for your help, especially mud hole as he answered my immediate question. I will be able to use the other suggestions now that I have some semblance of knowledge as to what I am doing. I managed to get the song sorted out and recorded. The quality blows me away. The editing available is really good.

One day I will need a drum tutorial

And one day, in the not too distant future, you will become addicted to it. Welcome to the insomniacs club mate.
