Hi all,
Loving Riffworks but desperate to find a way to record from Reason into Riffworks, specifically I want to record the output of a Reason synth into a riff as I play.

I'm on a Mac.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Paul

You don't record Reason into a layer of RW. You ReWire Reason to RW and check off the ReWire box for Reason in the back-up area of RW. You can then Mix to Riff once this is done...after that Reason would be a layer in the Mix to Riff. You can now record other layers in that Riff.

Thanks Camaro,
I have used the approach you describe, but I want to be able to play the Reason synths live straight into a Riff - on the fly - just like any an external audio source. I wondered if this could be done with something like Jack. I don't have a multiple output soundcard, which is another possibility as I understand it. Although maybe neither of these options is viable because of the way Reason works with Rewire...?

Yeah....I think you are going to run into a sound card/latency nightmare trying to do this. If you open RW and then Reason; Reason will naturally rewire to RW. If you open Reason and then RW.....I believe RW is going to lock up on you because it won't have access to the sound card. This then means you would have to run multiple cards.....and I am not really all that sure how well or if this would work.
I guess I would just try recording your lines into Reason (stand alone) as best as possible and then bring into RW as a rewire mix. Just set up a cue track in Reason and go from there.
Good Luck

Thanks a lot. I wonder if Sonoma would consider changing this in future?

I would (still) like to see RW operate as a rewire master and slave so recording in different apps could then take place depending on which one is the master. However this wouldn't matter with Reason as it is a rewire slave only (at least my version).

Hi Pauncy,

in a pc you can do it using Reaper. It's a little bit complicated but works fine. Reaper is a very cheap DAW with rewire support and something call Rearoute, an asio driver to connect different applications. You can run Reason as a rewire slave of Reaper and send the audio from reaper to RW using Rearoute.
An OSX version is coming soon.

Or Maybe there is an application for Mac similar to rearoute.

Thanks parr. I will check out Reaper - I am also now looking into a thing called soundflower on the Mac, which I think may work if not with Reason, then with standalone soft synths like INDEPENDENCE FREE (which is ACE!).
