For some time I have had a consistent problem while recording with RiffWorks Standard. The problem has occurred on two different computers and with fresh RWS downloads. I see nothing about the problem when I do a forum search.

Anyway, here’s my problem:
When I select “Delete All” in RiffWorks, the program can no longer record or even play Instant Drummer. RWS doesn’t freeze – the player simply stops working I must close and reopen RW to continue recording.

Both machines are Vista. However, I have used Vista for over a year and the problem didn’t exist until a few months ago.

Computer memory is not the issue – I have 3 MB.

Hey Ed, nice to see you back mate, I have a similar problem, dunno about delete all but delete riff and one or two other things make RW Std go into a sort of refusal to play mode. It seems if you click the Exit buttton and then click cancel when it asks you if you want to save will force it to clear itself. Hope that helps, save you losing anything if it does :)

Thanks Bill and its good to be back. :)

RWS does allow me to save for which I am thankful. Obviously, our problems are related. Perhaps the SWW gurus have this one already figured out and will chip in with a solution.

I've tried it on my system and everything seems to keep working OK. I clicked "Delete All" which ditched all the layers in a riff but I was able to move to another riff and it played OK, both in the Riff Player and in the Song Player. Doesn't help you much, I know ...
Hope your move went smooth Ed.
Cheers!
Scott

when that happens, try open/closing gearbox. mine does that all the time, i used to shut/open everything but it is a gearbox thing. i have vista also.
it seems to have been a recent problem.
it does that when someone comes/goes online on yahoo and now when i play windows media.

Well, I tried fooks suggestion but it didn't work unforunately. Things are fine until I attempt to "delete all."

Might be a silly question here, does everything else work? You can hear your riffs play, just without drummers? Or no sound at all?

Hey Ed, unless you have Tim 's problem, don't keep deleting it all, that might sort it. You haven't started wearing funny hats as well have ya ???? ;)

with my problem, nothing plays or moves but i can save and then exit also. so i am puzzled that the gb fix doesn't work for you, ed.

another freeze problem is when i try to delete a single layer when the layer is locked.
beeeeep! wrong answer!

i am used to this stuff now. annoying but livable.

Dave.

Actually, only the player stops working and consequently, there is no sound because I can't record or play or delete. Like Fooks and Bill, I can save and close the recorded riffs.

Funny but nonetheless, aesthetically pleasing. After all, I am in the art museum field. ;)

I'm still using XP and never had a problem with delete all on my desktop or laptop. Are all you guys going thru this using vista?
